I am a registrant of multiple .com domain names. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The increase is not justifiable other than through Verisign’s organizational lack of productivity. The increase in price would only make sense with a significant increase in value - which is nowhere to be seen or announced. rgds Stefan Denver, CO

To Whom It May Concern, Reading the proposed amendment to the .COM Registry Agreement, I must first state my disappointment with how this whole process has been handled by ICANN. I very much understand Verisign's fondness for keeping this whole proposed amendment as secret as possible for as long as possible, but ICANN should strive to increase transparency, not try to minimize it. It leaves the community with the (probably right) impression that matters are not really handled as a community, but rather by a select few behind closed doors. I hope this is a singular oversight on ICANN's part, and not an indicator of procedure going forward. Regarding the content of the proposed amendment, I can not see how, if I read it correctly, an up to 70% increase in domain name costs over the coming 10 years is in any way motivated. Costs of maintaining the necessary infrastructure has dropped over the last decade, and will continue to drop as technology, convergence and automation improves. This should mandate that prices should drop going forward, not increase. A natural correction for inflation is maybe necessary, but that would be in single percentage points over the same time period regardless of what model for estimating inflation is used. Dear Sirs, I think the price increases you allow of exotic proportions and up to 70% make the internet and the TLD registration undemocratic and segregational, especially to new entrepreneurs and small businesses, which make up the vast majority of domain registers/clients and internet users at the same time. Do not allow this abuse. Resist obscurity behind which you and only 1 the private company decide for the TLD fate of the world, a whopping 40% of the market share but way more in the mindshare of users, since any TLD is primarily associated with .com in users’ minds. Because the Internet and the TLDs therefore are a GLOBAL issue and not just a private issue between 2 companies. Your decisions raise serious concerns throughout the internet community globally and lead to outrageous prices. Yes, even meds can raise their pricess but did you see the effects in recent examples? You can not allow exaggeration and exuberance, as the overseeing authority on domain registrations, let alone to cut deals directly with 1 private company without listening to anyone else. I find the information that Namecheap provided on this issue useful. I would be not only surprised but infuriated in i saw .com’s at 30 or 40 per piece per year. Let alone the already exuberant prices of some .coms in the thousands of dollars. Domains are just a registration and nothing else, not the business itself or the process to be found. As the owner of a .com domain, I think that this change is a very bad idea. Having the price follow inflation is fine, but 7% increase is ridiculous. Verisign reported a 69.4% operating margin in Q1 2019, so this isn't a matter of the cost not covering the expenses, or even just barely doing so. Domain names are an essential part of the decentralized nature of the internet. Making .com more expensive will lock people out of the market and will make small domain owners like myself consider just using alternative DNS roots. This would fracture the internet into a million pieces. Please don't pass amendment 3.

I oppose this amendment. This does nothing to address the .com domain secondary market pricing problems and will only contribute by raising the baseline cost. This is not a solution for consumers but rather a solution for Verisign. Moreover, this shortsighted change will further internet centralization while hurting consumers and competition. Kia

This will very likely make no difference at all, but what is going on here? Why such a huge price increase? How is this justified? Surely those who matter are the individuals buying the domains in the first place. Running a website often has lots of different costs involved - from hosting fees to the time to setup and then manage and maintain a website. The last thing we need is a huge price increase. I am a PhD Student Researcher. I don't have the money to pay huge fees for a domain name. Many people will often choose a .com domain to host their website because it's the most well known. Far from it's original purpose: .com domains are used by everyone from companies to individuals. What is going on today? First .org, and now .com?
