Hello, I am writing to voice my opposition to Proposed Amendment 3. Despite there clearly being potential financial gains to be had by raising the registration fee on .com domains, the global DNS registration system should be run primarily as a public concern. The only entities that stand to benefit from the proposed arrangement are verisign itself, at the expense of the public. While price hikes such as this likely won't mean much to the larger business concerns that buy in bulk, it will impact the millions of small, independent businesses and developers that rely on the system as is to make their livelihood. At worst, this could prove yet another point of pressure that convinces a small business to make their online presence exclusively in the Facebook walled garden and eschew the web itself. The web, and global DNS, were envisioned to be run for the public good, and they SHOULD be run for the public good. Deals such as this are an abdication of that mandate; short sighted profit chasing at the expense of all else. Please do not adopt this proposal. Angel M. Rolon

I want to protest at the behavior of ICANN in setting up .COM domains for extensive price hikes for the foreseeable future. The fact that this was done in secret indicates that you were well aware of the protests it would elicit, and for good reason. You have a monopoly on .COM domains, similarly to your appalling behavior with .ORG domains being sold off to ex-employees to exploit as they wish (made worse by the fact that .ORG is usually owned by charitable or political organizations), there is no other provider for them which would lead users to expect a level of responsibility to your clients that goes well beyond allowing projected price rices to registrars for .COM domains of 7% each year in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023. Strong price capping is vital to maintaining equatable access, preventing runaway trading and sharp practice and keeping prices affordable for the vast number of users who are already opted into using a .COM domain WITH THE UNDERSTANDING that they had always been carefully capped and responsibly managed for the good of internet users and website owners, not given free reign to keep increasing prices willy-nilly to bleed users for more and more money year after year. In my view ICANN has made itself appear like a fly-by-night, cheap and untrustworthy domain trader with these moves, done undercover and designed to increases prices to users over and over and over in subsequent years, not the responsible guardian of the most well-known domain name in the world. My confidence and trust in ICANN is rapidly decreasing and if these outrageous changes go ahead I will certainly decrease the number .COMs I own and will eventually turn to using alternative domains. Dear Sirs, I would like to ask you as a human being to not increase .com registry. It you do, it will start snowball and all other domain extensions will increase their registry, too. It will lead to drastic expenses and therefore money which you are planning to gather through this price increment, will not be sufficient for what ever you are planning to do. You will need different measure to solve problem which your decision will create. Please look little bit further what your decision will impact worldwide. I oppose the price increases of .COM domains. The current pricing provides more than enough profit margin for maintenance of existing registrations and an ability to support any future registrations. This is just like the changes being made to .ORG domains: in the name of greed and making it harder to acquire and maintain domain names for users and organizations. — Chauncey McAskill

We're a web developer for mostly small businesses. As of now, many of them buy extra domains for protection from competitors making a competitive website. It's already a major investment for some of these clients to keep up those extra domains. If the prices were to rise significantly (more than a dollar or two) I would bet they would just drop their ownership of these extra domains. So, in the long run, your trying to be greedy for more money would actually backfire since registration of domains would actually drop. Steve Biese [email-logo]

I run a breakfast restaurant, where we charge $3 for a $.60 cup of coffee so that we can afford to charge $3 for a sausage patty that costs us nearly $2. I would rather live in a world where coffee is $1.50, and sausage is $5. Funding initiatives on the back of established profitable regimes is pork barrelling and corrupts the whole system. Let markets dictate prices and fund initiatives with venture capital. Thanks
