To Whom it May Concern: I am disappointed to learn of the agreement between Verisign and ICANN as it relates to the potential for increased prices of .COM domains. As you may be aware, a web presence is an essential lifeline for small businesses in today's economy. For my business, we operate on very small margins & increased costs for domain registry will negatively impact our business. Please reconsider this proposal. Regards, Michael Banks

Hello, I oppose Amendment 3 to the .COM Registry Agreement. I believe that allowing wholesale prices for .com domains to rise 72% over 12 years, which is far more than the rate of inflation and also far more than Verisign's underlying costs of maintaining the registry could possibly increase by, will dramatically hurt the internet ecosystem. It will especially hurt small website operators, like myself, and will discourage internet users from creating blogs and personal pages, with the end result of reducing democratization of the internet. Verisign reported a 69.4% operating margin in Q1 2019, so they clearly do not need the extra revenue from this price hike. ICANN has granted a monopoly over .com to Verisign and ICANN has a duty to every internet user on the planet to carefully regulate this monopoly to prevent abuse by Verisign. The only conscionable thing to do right now is to freeze wholesale .com prices and re-evaluate 5-10 years from now. A policy that allows price increases tracking the rate of inflation (but no higher) may make sense in the future, but right now Verisign is already collecting far more from their .com monopoly than any company would be able to in a competitive market [1]. It's simply not right to allow them to raise prices at this time. [1] For example, Alphabet, a highly successful player in a very high-margin industry, has an operating margin of around 25%. Verisign's operating margin is over 2.75 times that. -Dane Kouttron

To whom this may concern, I'm writing to express my frustration with the news of the new amendment of .com TLD which will allow significant price increases. It's particularly frustrating because the negotiations for this amendment seems to have been behind closed doors and seem to be pay-to-play (Verisign is offering 20 million!!). As an owner of a half a dozen .com domains, this increase will be costly for me. I'll have to reconsider holding on to so many domains and I'm sure many will do the same. This can cause the price increase benefits to backfire - similar to the gas tax price increase in NJ which saw declining revenue because out of state commuters stopped purchasing gas in NJ due to the increase. I hereby request that no price increases shall be instituted, rather the price freeze should stay in place. Thank you, Baruch Blaustein

Dear sir/mdm, The .COM TLD is the foundation of the modern world. Almost all major sites are .com sites and this agreement threatens to destabilize this, by giving the power to Verisign. We as internet users trust ICANN to protect the interests of all users. Do not give us a reason to doubt your ability to be the impartial organization that manages the internet. Hello. I am opposed to increased domain-name costs. This will curtail low-income users like myself from participating openly and fairly on the Internet. I'm disappointed and oppose the recent changes ICANN announced with its contract with Verisign Inc. The process was not transparent and did not include end users' interests whose cost are anticipated to increase by at least 70%. There should be price caps and virtual community land trusts in order to keep the internet accessible to all without huge barriers to entry, to keep true to the vision of internet pioneers as an open community. Please reconsider and represent the people, all people.

Is this how the internet is going to be run? Money controls everything and people forget their morals in the process? Closed door deals? I hope the parties involved come to their senses and rethink what they are doing and the effects they will have.

Who is ICANN? *"ICANN is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet's unique identifiers. Through its coordination role of the Internet's naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet."* By definition, how can ICANN be ICANN if you are allowing these price increases for your or for other's profit, your benefit?
