Dear Sir or Madam, I overwhelmingly oppose the suggested amendment to the .com registry to increase the cost of .com wholesale domains by more than 70% over and above current prices. It is my belief -- and the belief of the majority of .com registrants and website owners, that the .com registry is a utility that must only suffer increases if inflation or operating costs dictate so. Such and egregious increase without justification of one (or both) of these factors is an affront to the freedom of the internet and the liberties we find within it. Sincerely, Don Citarella

Hello, I'm writing to express concern around the new .com price increase. I run a personal blog every year that results in a net loss every year, but gives back to communities, just the way the internet used to be and was founded on (sharing knowledge). In addition, I have several domain names for hobbies that have helped me learn new technologies. In these cases, the domain increase further adds to that burden and prevents individuals like me from having a chance to free voice and further push my learning through the internet. I understand infrastructure is required to handle domain names, but technology has not only become more efficient but become cheaper. Increasing efficiency and driving down cost should not result in a higher priced product, rather it should result in a more adoptable product that allows others to succeed. Please reconsider this price increase - ICANN wasn't founded for profit, it was founded to make the internet and open place for people to learn, explore, and have a voice. Thank you, Jack

I urge ICANN to retract its proposed new contract with Verisign providing for a series of annual wholesale price increases. As a digital good, one might well expect the price of domain registration to decline over time rather than to rise continuously. An important role of the internet is as a public commons, and it should be a goal of those who enable the foundational structure of the internet to maximize the opportunity for participation rather than erect increasingly higher economic barriers. Domain name registration should be treated as a public utility rather than as a profit center, operated with the minimum expense needed to achieve its goals, and providing a utility-like return on whatever invested capital it requires. You likely shouldn't increase prices on .COM domains, the low prices are part of the open internet. It smells a lot like when ISPs wanted to give some packages priority over others. Kind regards

Verisign shouldn't have influence over the pricing of domains. These hidden deals need to stop, this method of influencing how the internet is run is corrosive and far more dangerous than a small price increase.
