I am opposed to the proposed rule change because I believe it will increase the costs of domain ownership with no real plan for the proceeds. An additional $20m to ICANN without a plan for domain security in an unnecessary fee increase on all internet users. Additionally, the language allowing Verisign to also serve as a registrar is unprecedented. The company that controls a vast majority of the pricing shouldn't be able to compete with other registrars for business. Please do not accept this rule change. Hello Dot Com Peoples, I heard that you were going to raise the cost is my domain. I would ask you to reconsider because it will be an additional expense in to my razor thin budget. The internet should be the great equalizer and making Dot coms more expensive will reduce the credibility of the next college student idea. No body would have visited Facebook dot info.... I oppose these changes. This is an unethical and greedy move allowing Verisign to benefit extraordinarily at the expense of users. A 7% increase a year means that by the end of 10 years I'll be paying at *least* 70% more than current prices for my domains. Price increases may be necessary over time to remain competitive, but that's an absurd inflation rate based on pure greed. On your own website you claim: "ICANN is a not-for-profit public-benefit corporation with participants from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet's unique identifiers. Through its coordination role of the Internet's naming system, it does have an important impact on the expansion and evolution of the Internet." This move will demonstrate that you are not, in fact, a "public-benefit" corporation that "promotes competition". Please visit your own website https://www.icann.org/get-started to remind yourselves what your mission is because you seem to have lost your way. If ICANN moves ahead with this, it will prove that it is *NOT* a reputable or trustworthy organisation and that it has failed in its mission to the public and its role in stewardship of the internet with accountability and transparency. Hello ICANN, I believe the internet should be an open place where people can easily access and share information. By increasing the price of .COM, the most popular TLD, you're stopping a bunch of people in developing countries from accessing these domains. You're also stopping students and others from easily being able to afford to run a website, just from greed. If you're interested in money, consider offering a service of some kind rather than jacking up the prices of the .COM TLD. Help be the important figure that keeps the internet accessible to all.
