Hi ICANN, I am writing to express my opposition to the new .com deal with Verisign announced last month. This deal will place an undue burden on small business owners and give Verisign an unfair advantage in the market relative to other domain registrars. As Verisign has a monopoly regarding the usage of .com domain names, their pricing must be kept in check. 7% per year is too much of an increase, far outpacing inflation. Please revise or kill this deal. Thank you, David Kirshbaum

ICANN must continue to support a open, distributed internet, and this is another move away from that. More transparency should be the answer to the openness that the internet was built on, not secretive meetings. Similarly, low domain prices are required to allow ANYONE to be a part of the internet, as it has been since the beginning. I'm concerned that the price increases in the .com domain and the contract with Verisign. "Verisign agreed to pay ICANN an additional $20 million dollars over five years to support ICANN's domain name system initiatives, without any clarity about how ICANN will spend the money, or who will ensure that the funds are properly spent on domain infrastructure." ~ Namecheap. Is this true? How is Verisign's money going to be spent and how much is actually needed? Who will ensure the funds are properly spent?

These changes will have significant impact on the Internet for years to come, and only ICANN and Verisign have participated in this decision. Please consult with the ICANN community and explain what you're going to do with the 20 million promised to you by VeriSign. -Daniel

This is just unbelievable and inexcusable. This is downright criminal. Why? What could these companies gain from gouging internet users? Money... Oh yea. But this move will have fallout, I have just returned from 5 years away from the industry to be side swiped by domain prices... What happened? Now they want to raise prices again? For what reason? How is this justifiable? The fallout is going to come in the form of people looking to expand themselves or their business entity on the internet and being unable to afford it. I find it disingenuous that without any consultation you intend to increase year on year the costs of .com domains. This will have a significant negative effect on my business without any genuine benefits for customer users. I will be forced to look at Google or other free domains. Profiteering practices to line a few pockets of shareholders. Sent from my iPhone
