To whom it may concern, I am opposed to the price increase on .com domains. Having a .com allows website owners to get visitors to their sites more easily. Making .coms a premium extension will create an unbalanced lanscape where smaller buisnesses and projects will be unable to compete at the same level as bigger companies and projects thus creating digital classes. The internet is the greatest thing that has allowed small and medium businesses to thrive. I urge you to please take this into consideration. Thank you

I don't think anyone is opposed to the cost going up if it is necessary. Could you please explain what the cost increase is for and what it will go towards? If even a portion is being pocketed as profit, that is absurd and unjust. I thought the internet was supposed to be about spreading information and knowledge, not trying to get a quick buck. A domain name is required for meaningfully publishing content online. The barrier to registering a domain name is already high... it requires a credit card, which is difficult or impossible to get for some. Raising the price of a domain makes it even more difficult for the impoverished to participate online. As someone who has been personally affected by this in the past, I'm frustrated that you would propose raising fees. ICANN should reject VeriSign's proposal. Additionally, ICANN should consider providing one free personal domain registration to anyone who wants it, as a way to enable more people to publish online.

ICANN does not own the internet. ICANN should be accountable to users, registrars and domain owners as well as the public at large. I object to Proposed Amendment 3 on the grounds that it has not been independently audited, provides no accountability for funds collected, nor does it provide a means to ensure costs to domain owners will not rise substantially and could not rise further through the use of loopholes in the proposal. Deals made in secret almost never benefit the public at large. Deals made at arms length and without undue influence and which have been vetted by independent parties are most likely to be fair and balanced. This proposal must be re-routed through a proper auditing process. In case it is not clear by my message, I thoroughly object to this proposed amendment and the process by which it has been made. I feel this proposed fee hike for .com domain price increases violates the public interest and serves only Verisign. I can see why Verisign is concerned for profit margins considering they had overcharged for YEARS with inflated certificate signing and stifled public protections for privacy and security innovations. Conservatively I personally may have as little as 15-20 domains at any given time. Many friends and associates have many more. 30 to 50% of those domains are .com. Only through dedicated application, focus, testing and research can worthy domains be cultivated and monetized. A lot of time and energy goes into making a domain and business idea profitable. It is a chaotic process and there are no crystal balls. There are a lot of prevalent practices that we struggle with. But to hike domain fees only serves to kill innovation and prevent digital entrepreneurs like myself and others like my associates from successfully participating. All those costs add up real quick and provide a very real barrier to entry. We are only beginning to enter the era of the global digital entrepreneur. We need to be making it easier not harder. If Verisign can't find ways to value-add rather than take advantage of people - they deserve to file Chapter 11. STOP gouging consumers and the people who are working hard every day to make innovation happen!

Many small companies, small organizations and individuals own .com domains, not just large corporations. Allowing pretty much unfettered price increases for .com domains is going to negatively impact these groups, especially individuals. Needing to increase the cost to support additional and/or updated infrastructure required to manage the.com TLD seems reasonable but giving a for profit third party company the ability to raise the price for 8 years of a 10 year period is ridiculous. Please reconsider the structure of this agreement and limit the aggregate cost increases to something concrete and fair like no more than a 100% price increase spread incrementally over the course of a 10 year period. It is regrettable to hear that an organization so large is willing to risk losing it's broad range of customers because it did not explain how price increases would be carefully monitored and wisely spent. I would like to point out that world-wide organizations reliant on technology, which thought that they were too important to ever lose their customers did indeed die in an instant. Landline phones, vinyl records, cassette tapes, Pan Am, DeLorean: They all thought the world's eyes and investment would stay with them but they ended up with zero customers. I myself have moved away from .COM domains, as of today I only own two out of my previous dozens. Why, have I moved away from .COM: Your future customer's customers aren't interested in ancient technology. And typing in ".com" is ancient.

I am a domain owner and I oppose the increase in .com price. If ICANN is going to relinquish it's role in pricing oversite, the management of .com should be bid out and not assigned to a single entity with no competitive pricing. In addition, the $20m kickback to fund undisclosed ICANN programs establish a poor practice of "pay to play" when dealing with ICANN. ICANN should be working in a transparent manner in the public interest and not looking to fund itself while allowing a private company to monopolize the registration process and prices.

You are not going to end up making more money, companies will start switching to other domains, and as it becomes more and more websites start using non-.com registries, people will become accustomed to not going to .com sites and that will snowball in to the use of many registries. Hello, I am very disappointed to learn today that ICANN has made a secret deal with Verisign, to benefit both parties financially, to the detriment of internet users and in particular small businesses, worldwide. Small businesses rely on being able to utilize the .com TLD as a trusted way for their customers to reach them online. ICANN's self-serving deal with Verisign means that retaining .com domains, will be approximately 70% more cost prohibitive over the next 10 years. This deal makes .com domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. It is a bad deal for everyone except ICANN and Verisign. This secret deal is contrary to ICANN's remit, which in part is to maintain, not reduce competition in the domain marketplace. Please consider scrapping these planned changes.
