I will be extremely brief. At issue are smaller entities which need their domain names. Increasing pricing will present undue burden to small businesses with a web presence. Having a web presence is already extremely expensive. Allowing verisign to increase rates much larger than inflation creates monopolistic behavior on part of the domain name issuer ripe for abuse. In order to have a usable internet as service with a diversity of content, costs must remain low. Thanks, J.R.

I'm sure this comment won't matter just like the thousands of others that have already commented voicing their concerns over the vague nature of these price increases and who truly stands to gain from them. Raising prices on .com domains significantly increases the costs and barrier to entry for small businesses to get an online presence and move into the 21st century/digital era. Although doubtful, I genuinely hope the contract is called off entirely. If not, at least 75% of the funds do go to improving the global root domain name system servers and infrastructure. If the funds don't get spent correctly, I hope the individuals involved are investigated by the SEC and properly reprimanded. What a sad society when money comes first.

I am appalled that ICANN is even considering allowing this sale to go through. The damage to the reputation of the organization is back enough, but the total disregard for all the people who worked so hard to make the registry possible. It's a slap in the face to them and to the people who trusted your stewardship. The dot com TLD is the backbone of the internet - and apparently ICANN thinks that the cost for it should be controlled by a for profit corporation. Not only is this poor judgement but since you're making $20M off the deal - clearly you're not opposed to selling the internet to the highest bidder. Absolute power corrupts absolutely - how pathetic to think you would sell the internet TLDs for any amount of money. ICANN need to think about the clients who cannot follow the updates and rely on their website to make money. We already face a problem keeping with the annual bill of our domains. Dear Sir/Madam, I understand that ICANN are considering amendments to the .COM registry agreement. As a small-business owner and IT contractor for many companies and charities I am concerned with several aspects of these proposed changes. 1. *_Any increase_**_in the wholesale price_* of .COM domains will affect the often slim profit margins of freelance web developers, and affect my customers decisions with regard to whether a .COM, or even a website is worth their while. Why not just have a Facebook page - they are free after-all. 2. I am concerned with the *_involvement of Verisign as a controller of registrar pricing_*... as well as a domain registrar itself? That seems like a severe conflict of interest. 3. Apparently over 3,500 comments were submitted to a previous ICANN consultation... but were ignored as being 'spam' due to a number of them using an online tool. I hope ICANN will be considering more comments during this consultation. Storage and computational power have become ever cheaper. How can you justify not one, but a series of increases to domain pricing (particularly .COM) when cost for equipment and resources have dropped faster than any sort of inflation. There's talk (whatever that's worth) of some back-room deals to enable larger groups like Verisign increase their profitability. Also, very possibly driving the smaller registrars out of business . . . and, of course, followed by even steeper price increases. I've seen this with "Home Depot" destroying the local hardware stores and then increasing prices whilst reducing services. Is this where we are headed? Or perhaps, are you working on causing consumers to relinquish their .com domains by increasing the pricing? The proposed price increase of the .COM registry is unnecessary and greedy move by ICANN. The cost of facilitating a registry, in this case by Verisign, has never been cheaper on a per domain basis. Therefore there is no satisfactory reason that a non-profit organization would increase costs towards the very people it is intended to serve. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that these comments will even be considered and at worse they will simply be called 'spam'. So we must hope that eventually investigations into this and the related .ORG scandal will bring the individuals responsible for this greed and misconduct to the eye of the law and the public. Not only is this comment against the proposed price increases, it is also against ICANN control of the DNS root zone and any other aspects of the internet at large. Thank you.

To whom it may concern, Wholesale registries charge Namecheap a set fee per domain name per year. According to this new agreement, Verisign will be allowed to increase the wholesale price to registrars for .COM domains every year for 8 out of the next 10 years, and the increases don't stop there. This will mean that .COM wholesale domain prices can grow by more than 70% over and above current prices over the next decade. The contract also allows for other price increases, which could drive prices up further, ultimately making .COM domains less accessible and more expensive for everybody. Thank you for the opportunity to provide comments to the proposed amendment to the .COM registry agreement. I have a domain portfolio of over 1,000 .COM domains. Considering the origin of the price increases that have made their way into many registry agreements, I'm opposing any potential price increases, especially for .COM. The increases were originally allowed due an out of court settlement between ICANN and Verisign, that was decided without any community input and should have been time limited. Being quite technical myself, I do not see any obvious reason for the cost to run the registry and the DNS servers to increase. Technology gets cheaper in scale and the number of registrations is still increasing. Many other potential operators have made credible statements (and bids) that show that the registry can be run at a lower price. Thus, the rate should remain fixed at $7.85, or even be lowered. As a public company, Verisign's biggest obligation is to their shareholders, which means they need to increase their profit as much as possible. This does not align with the interest of the community and stakeholders in the ICANN process. As an internet user, website owner and operator, and professional web developer, I cannot fathom how you can possibly justify this change. This is nothing but monopolistic extortion. Unless Verisign's costs are expected to rise faster than inflation (which they are emphatically not), then this is completely unjustifiable on the grounds of the public good. This is merely enriching verisign at the public's expense. It's indefensible and preposterous on it's face. Seriously, you all need to give your head a shake for thinking this was halfway reasonable, it goes against the very principles that our economy is based on, for no reason whatsoever except enriching a singular private company. Arbitrary increasing the prices of .com domain names will hurt an extremely large part of the internet consumers, please don't let this happen, Verisign already makes many millions of dollars by leveraging the economy of scale with hundred of millions of .com domains, and that allows them to maintain and improve their infrastructure without any issue and still have large profits, if we allow them to increase the prices, that will make more hurt than good, just too fill the pockets of a few greedy actors and hamper the innovation of the internet.
