Thank you for the opportunity to submit a comment. I am a .org registrant. Legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs and should be treated that way. Legacy TLDs are what the internet was built on. They are essentially a public trust. They are very different than new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private parties. Registrants of these legacy extensions should be entitled to price predictability & stability. Advancements in technology should be driving the cost of operating a registry down, yet prices keep going up? Removing price caps is unfair to the millions of domain registrants. They will have no price protections. Every registrant will be at the complete mercy and whims of the registry. This could result in a transfer of funds from millions of non-profits to one non-profit, with no benefits to the domain registrants. ICANN is supposed to represent a "bottom up, consensus-driven multi-stakeholder model". ICANN should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN should be looking out for the .org registrants, in particular the non-profits. There is no "public benefit" justification to these changes. It is just a handout to business at the expense of registrants’ rights and protections. Where are the protections for the millions of domain registrants that this could effect in a negative way? These changes would give way too much power to the registry. This is not acceptable for a "public benefit" organization that exists to represent many stakeholders. Cheers, Jim Grace

I am generally against the removal of the price increase provisions of this proposal. I can see some value in the idea, but only in the context of domain resellers versus registrars. I do not believe that wholesale prices for domains and consequently the prices for end-user registries should be changed in any regards.

Please continue to keep the web open, affordable and accessible by mot raising prices of TLD's. With net neutrality being eliminated in the U.S it seems that more and more people are working at closing up the internet and making it only easy for corporations to use and build on. Please keep prices the same to make it fair to everybody. -Ari Leibowitz

[Comments-org-renewal-18mar19] Proposed changes to .ORG registration pricing policy

Hello: After reading through the proposed changes to the .ORG policies regarding pricing for registrations, I find that there is no acceptable reason to allow unrestricted price increases for base registration pricing. The individual domain registration costs are on the scale of a fractional penny of real resource costs. Any price increases, beyond inflation and actual infrastructure costs, are simple toll collecting by the root ORG registrar. Infrastructure costs have only decreased with time, and inflation is well under the 10% limit currently imposed. I strongly urge that this policy not be adopted. Instead, I would propose an even more restrictive policy to prevent price increases should be put in place. Any price increase in base registration costs by any root registrar on any TLD should require public justification. Thank you, Aaron Longfield

Since .org domains are used extensively by charitable and nonprofit organization, this could be devastating for these organizations. I run a small nonprofit, and we are a captured audience as far our domain name goes. Unlimited price increases could ruin us. I urge ICANN to maintain the present cap on annual increases to prevent throttling access to the Internet for those groups least able to absorb increases. Jenny Wolfer Loudoun Empty Bowls

Hi, I run a .org website that is for a not for profit purpose and have to run it in a very barebones manner. If domain prices increase, we will not be able to cover our operational costs in the long run. I hope that the price hike would be given a serious reconsideration. Best, Yun Da

Please consider the long-term consequences on consumers (individuals) of any adjustments to the .org registry ... If businesses can dramatically increase the prices of (.org) domain name registry, it will result in far greater commercialization of the Internet, and reduction in the marketplace of ideas from the individuals throughout society. Please avoid adjustments that would allow domain registrars to dramatically increase prices for domain name registry. Thank you for your time and consideration. --- joe
