To Whom It May Concern, We find it completely unconscienable that ICANN, which is an organization entrusted with caring for the development of the internet and the registration of urls can abandon domains like .org and .info to a price gouging process where no control is placed on registrars. This kind of free-market process does not work and on the contrary encourages price gouging and price fixing. Rather than increasing registrations of .org, such a process will become a price barrier, and render .org meaningless. Only pushing those who already have it to either abandon .org and migrate elsewhere or be forced to pay what the registrars will ask. Most people use .org for not for profit initiatives, as well as .info. And yet they are sought after, especially .org, because they help organizations distinguish themselves from commercial and market based initiatives. So you have a captured group, that wants to distinguish itself with this registration and you will see businesses which will take advantage of this captured user base to push prices higher. This would be a fatal error (unless you want to harm non-profit organizations!!!) in an arena of user-ship that is oriented toward common good activities and construction of sensibilities other than that of the ‘marketplace’. All the art spaces and artists with small organizations will suffer from this decision. Please do not allow unimpeded price gouging in these domains. Thanks You, Felix

Hi, I am writing to request that ICANN renews its current contract with Public Interest Registry (PIR) but only on the condition that the wholesale price of .org domains increased by a maximum of 10% per year. I am the owner of two .org sites, which are non-profit services in Mexico. If PIR is allowed to charge whatever prices it wants, it could severely affect our operations and affect the little profit margin we make each year. Please, please do not allow PIR to set price changes above 10% increase every year. Many thanks, Hector

Hello, I wanted to express my opinion that the removal of price caps, and limitations on price increases, as proposed seems that it could place a burden on many non-profit organizations. Many, if not most who use .ORG domains operate solely on donations and have very limited budgets. They are not making a profit like many .COM companies, which would have a better ability to handle larger price increases. In an effort to not place an undue burden on .ORG users, I urge you to not remove these caps and limitations. Thank you for letting me express my opinion. Brad Firestone

I write in opposition of removing the cap for .Org websites. This would create the possibility for unlimited price increases. As a non-profit organization with limited funding, we are constrained more and more every single day. In turn, this causes hardships for us to be able to serve our community and their needs. Our website is a useful tool for community members. To remove a cap and have unregulated increases will cause us to re-think how we communicate through the internet, limiting our ability to be an effective organization. Please don’t remove the limit on how much .org prices can raise every year. Many civic oriented non-profits with very limited budgets use .orgs and adding additional costs can undermine our ability to serve the public interest. Thanks.

I am writing about the .org contract renewal. ICANN has control of the .org gTLD as a public trust that predates the existence of ICANN by many years. It is entirely inappropriate for ICANN to abdicate its responsibility to ensure that registration pricing is reasonable. L.S., I am a .org registrant and a not-for-profit or non-profit organization. Telling the .org registry that it can charge any price it wants for renewing a domain name is a terrible idea. Why would you allow them to set a crazy high price? What is the reasoning behind giving a monopoly-holding registry free reign to chare whatever they want (which they -will-, given the greedy nature of human beings). They could try to force the domain owners to pay a very high price each year to renew their domain name, and if the domain owner either won't or can't, which is more likely for non-profits than anyone else, then the .org registry could take away their domain name, set a high registration price on it, and then try to find someone else who is willing to pay a high price for it (likely ONLY to spread malware or cash in on advertising from broken links, or even to commit fraud). This is very unfair to long time .org domain owners who may see their prices raised sky high for no reason. As a critical note: you let the new domain extensions charge any price they want, but that hasn't gone so well. Lots of people got burned when the new registries offered low rates for the first year, and then after people registered the domain names and some built web sites on them, some of the prices were raised through the roof. .Org has been working just fine for decades where the prices maybe go up a little bit each year but remain affordable for non-profits. Allowing huge price increases from one year to the next could ruin .org for everybody. I think you should pay a little more attention to what is good for the owners of .org domain names. The registries are doing fine. They don't need your help as they are already making plenty of money. I've read about a lot of bad decisions under the UDRP. The URS seems even worse. I heard the URS is very new and is being reviewed now to see if it is working properly. It is too soon to include an untested policy on .org domains where for a few hundred dollars anyone could try to shut down someone else's website. Moonchild, Pale Moon project owner
