Development of process and criteria for selection of GNSO Rep to EC Admin
Dear All, After a well-deserved break, it is now time to start focusing on the second assignment that the GNSO Council provided to the SSC, namely the development of the criteria and the process for the selection of the GNSO Representative to the Empowered Community Administration. The GNSO Council has requested to receive your proposal in time for consideration during its June 2017 meeting, which means it would need to be submitted by 19 June. Following approval of the criteria and process, the SSC is also expected to carry out the selection process. To facilitate your deliberations on this topic, Emily has developed the attached background document for your review. Also, now that the RDS Review Team Selection Process has been completed, Susan has indicated that she is still willing to take on the chair role for this effort. If I recall well, Maxim indicated he was willing to serve as a vice-chair (Maxim, please correct me if I am wrong)? Of course, if others are interested in a leadership position for this effort, please share your interest on the mailing list so it can be considered as a first item of business for your next meeting. In relation to that next meeting, you should receive a doodle poll request shortly in view of trying to schedule a next meeting of the SSC either next week (15 May) or the week thereafter (22 May). Marika,
Also, now that the RDS Review Team Selection Process has been completed, Susan has indicated that she is still willing to take on the chair role for this effort. If I recall well, Maxim indicated he was willing to serve as a vice-chair (Maxim, please correct me if I am wrong)? It would of course be nice and convenient of we could simply appoint Susan and Maxim, so I am a bit hesitant to complicate things, but after I ended up as some sort unofficial custodian of the RDS RT selection process, it was suggested that I might also want to consider putting forward my name as a candidate for vice-chair. This is therefore me carefully and tentatively raising my hand... Julf
Hi Julf, thanks for raising your hand. I'll second your nomination. I do believe it would be interesting your participation in the role of vice-chair given you did mediate the views of the different participants of SSC last time very successfully. Best, Renata
Hello Renata, Very true indeed +1 indeed, based on the fact Julf mediated the views of all participants of the last SSC successfully, its only right I support is role as Vice Chair. Kind Regards Poncelet On 9 May 2017 at 11:52, Renata Aquino Ribeiro <raquino@gmail.com> wrote:

(Apologies for late reply, as I was pretty busy at RIPE74) Renata, Poncelet, Thank you for the kind and encouraging words. My only concern is that chair + 2 vice chairs for a group as small as ours might be a bit of overkill. Julf
Hello Julf, I do support your point of view. If the only reason for co-chair position is a possibility to replace Chair in case of PTO or illness (time conflicts in our meetings can be resolved, due to rather small number of seats), then 2 co-chairs is definitely an overkill, and I think that only one is enough. Ultimately we can vote via poll for 1 question : 2 Co-chairs - is it a must for our Committee? (and next poll (depends on result of the first) - Whom do you support for A Co-Chair position? (for TWO Co-Chairs positions) P.s: I believe that in our case co-chair's position is quite formal and needed only for formal leading of the discussion during the calls (or on the list in case of Chair's PTO/sickness leave). Hi, Maxim, Thanks, appreciate your views!
P.s: I believe that in our case co-chair's position is quite formal and needed only for formal leading of the discussion during the calls (or on the list in case of Chair's PTO/sickness leave).
I agree - but as we have seen, the possibility that the chair has to recluse him/herself from a specific discussion is quite real considering the the limited number of candidates to fill the numerous positions we will be called upon to make choices for. I guess there can be situations where both the chair and vice chair have to recluse themselves, but then again, I guess there also can be a situation where chair and both vice-chairs would have to recluse themselves - where does it end? Julf
Hi Julf, Can we name the second in voting results co-chair as "backup co-chair in case both Chair and the primary co-chair are not available"? So we have this situation covered. (I hope we do not see the situation where all 3 are not available :) Sincerely Yours, Maxim Alzoba Special projects manager, International Relations Department, FAITID m. +7 916 6761580(+whatsapp) skype oldfrogger Current UTC offset: +3.00 (.Moscow)

Julf, What do you think about this idea? I think we can put that for the poll as a question (whom do you support?) and one of two co-chais (for example me) will not use title until other persons as Chair, other co-Chair do not participate (or step down due to potential conflict of interests). I am not sure that is compatible with the bylaws.

I guess that could be a workable model - Marika, I assume that would not be in conflict with the bylaws? Julf

Emily,
Please try this one: https://community.icann.org/display/GSSC/2.+Charter.
Great! Many thanks! As the charter doesn't address the issue of vice chairs, I guess we fall back to the working group guidelines that just state that a working group may elect to have co-chairs or vice chairs. Julf
