vTechDay at ICANN 85 (Mumbai) The ICANN Tech Working Group is again planning a technical workshop at the ICANN 85 meeting (Monbay) As the meeting will be hybrid so will be vTechDay which is currently penciled in for Monday, 2025-10-27 for blocks: Block 2 10:30 - 12:00 (90 Min) Block 3 13:15 - 14:30 (75 min) Block 4 15:00 - 16:00 (60 min) Block 5 16:30 - 17:30 (60 min) All times are local (Mumbai) time. We shall try to accommodate the time zone of virtual presenters in setting the agenda. The TechDay workshop has been a part of ICANN meetings since 2006 and has provided a forum for both experienced and new people to meet, present and discuss technical topics related to registry and DNS work and security. We are specially interested in: 1. UA/IDN In this respect we are anticipating a round table organized by the ccNSO-UA Committee. Please engage with them via email at ccnso-uacommittee(a)icann.org, keeping us in copy at ccNSO-techday(a)icann.org. 2. DNS Abuse Prevention and Mitigation Tools 3. Best (security) management practices, lines of defense, to protect Registries from bad actors, attacks or malware, or even reports of failures 4. .taipei zone access via czds

Hey, Talking about having trouble getting access to certain zones: Has anybody here been able to get access to the .taipei zone? I've repeatedly submitted requests that were always shut down with a note saying: --- Reason: Requester did not provide correct or legitimate credentials (explain why) Explanation: Please provide a complete address, a telephone number and associated FTP IP address and resubmit your request for approval. --- For each request, I _did_ in fact provide all that information. I've also tried to reach out to the contacts listed on https://www.iana.org/domains/root/db/taipei.html / whois, but the technical contact never replied and the administrative contact email address bounces. (I've filed a request with ICANN to update the information.) If anybody here managed to get access to the zone, would you mind sharing how you went about that? Thanks! -Jan

.TOP made inactive? (CZDS zone file access)

Just got an e-mail that ZFA for .TOP had been revoked as the gTLD had been made inactive. "Request revoked as TLD has been made inactive." Checked another stats site and it was showing 0 domain names in the zone which may indicate that it didn't get today's zone. Has .TOP gTTLD been made inactive or is this a problem on the CZDS or with the .TOP registry? Name Collision IPv6 Research Study - Public Comment

Dear colleagues, ICANN has opened a public comment period on a research study titled "Controlled Interruption IPv6 Research Study". The study focuses on extending ICANN's "controlled interruption" mechanism, previously implemented using only the IPv4 address 127.0.53.53 into the IPv6 realm, given the growing adoption of IPv6 (> 40 % of hosts). The public comment period runs from 20 October 2025 to 22 December 2025: https://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/proceeding/name-collision-ipv6-rese… Controlled interruption is a phase in the establishment of a new generic top-level domain (gTLD) that is designed to reduce the risk of name collision. During controlled interruption, certain DNS resource records, designed to interrupt resolution processes, are temporarily published at and below the gTLD name. The content of these DNS records is intended to minimize any harm that arises from such interruption. This study produces an initial list of candidate prefixes, followed by technical tests of multiple applications on popular end-user operating systems. The aim was to identify candidate addresses where DNS lookups returning that address did not result in any unintended external network traffic. A preferred candidate that met these criteria was identified: ffff:127.0.53.53, which is the IPV6 mapping of the original IPv4 controlled interruption address. -- Francisco.

Following a “beta” phase, the production RST v2.0 environment has now been launched. This environment differs from the Operational Testing and Evaluation (OT&E) environment in that it will be used to test the registry systems of applicants in the Registry Service Provider (RSP) Evaluation Program. As such, the RSP Portal will create and configure the test objects defining the TLD(s) and registry functions being tested (in OT&E, users are free to configure these as needed). ICANN org is currently testing the integration between the RSP portal and RST systems. This is expected to be completed by 11 August 2025. After this date, applicants will have the opportunity to begin production RST testing once applicants have cleared technical screening.
