In the presentation for the IDN Program Update it says that the Guidelines are " Contractually binding for Registrars and Registries for gTLDs". That is not completely true, as far as I know. It should probably say that they are " Contractually binding for Registrars and Registries for gTLDs under Registry Agreement with ICANN" or something. This is my contribution for item 1 (Update the Introduction section to include more context for the reader for the document to be more self-explanatory): >>> This Guidlines is about the implementation if Internationalized Domains Names (IDN) under Internet domains. IDN is standardized by IETF as an extension to DNS (RFC 5890). The main target of this document are registries of TLDs that offer or plan to offer registrations of IDN domain names on second level. If the Registry Agreement between ICANN and the Registry Operator for the specific TLD says so, this document is binding for that TLD. For other TLDs this document is the best current practice. This document is also valuable for Registrars offering registration of IDN domain names and domain name owners adding IDN names under its domain. This document consists of a number of recommendations. If it is stated in the recommendations that a certain choice "must" be taken, then there is there is no option to implementing that recommendation. Dear All, 1. Please find attached the summary of our meeting on 06 October 2016. Please let me know in case of any changes. 2. Kindly note that we would like to switch to a weekly call schedule for October 2016, if it is convenient for the members, to close some of the discussions and plan for ICANN57. We will be scheduling for the same day and time as the current meetings. I will send in invitation for the extra meetings shortly. Please let us know if you have any feedback regarding the scheduling. 3. In the previous call we discussed developing a clean version of the guidelines, based on the current status, and a presentation for ICANN 57. Both are attached for your review. I have put in complete text of the recommendations in the presentation slides, as the actual text is useful to discuss. However, if we feel that a summarized version of the recommendations should be presented, I am happy to create an abridged version. Please share your feedback. We have the following action items: S. No. Action Items Owner 1 Finalize recommendation 7 in Section 2.3 based on suggestions. KF 2 >From previous meeting: Finalize the Revised new recommendation re: LGR in Section 2.4 per the discussion on need for registries explaining deviation but not requiring them to do so. EC 3 >From previous meeting: For the new recommendation on registry collaboration at the end of Section 2.4., update to include script based tables, e.g. by introducing reference to RFC 5646 for language/script tags. MT 4 Check for scheduling weekly calls, and generate a clean copy of the document with latest version of the recommendations. I've attached my revision for Recommendation7. As we've discussed in the past, I've tried to keep each statement simple and to break out the paragraph into some points. To that end it now consists of an obligation to submit LGRs to IANA (recommendation 7) with sub recommendations for the format, the content of the LGR and a suggestion for legacy IDN tables to migrate.
