Dear Tijani and All, First my apologies for missing yesterday’s call. Regarding the proposal of reviewing the charter, I believe it’s essential that, before we begin any such work, we establish clarity on the current membership space, we need clarity on who its members are. Specifically, we need to know who is subscribed to the mailing list and thus entitled to contribute to the work of the space. This lack of clarity was one of the main reasons we never conducted elections in the past – except for the most recent leadership elections, which proceeded without the benefit of a fully validated membership base. Establishing such clarity now will enable us not only to move forward with the charter review but also to ensure our work is inclusive and transparent. Accordingly, I propose we start with validating the membership base of the space, which will embark on its work starting with the review of the charter. Hadia has raised an important point regarding clarity of membership. I believe the Charter itself assumes that the “MEAC Community” is self-defined, but in reality, we lack a clear definition of who is included. To ensure transparency and inclusiveness, I suggest we not only validate the membership base but also publish an updated list of ME Space members and mailing list subscribers. This will clarify representation and strengthen trust in our process. Dear Chokri, Thank you for your reply, however this has nothing to do with “collecting data about the community.” It’s about knowing our membership base. As mentioned before we proceeded with elections without knowing who is on the mailing list or when did they join, that is we went with elections without knowing who has the right to vote, we never had elections before because of this issue. The space was to address topics of interest to the region so let’s continue as such, but to do elections and charters that’s a different issue.
