This situation has affected one Board member’s participation in the Board Workshop taking place in Los Angeles this week, and it may make it more difficult for certain community members to travel to ICANN 58 in Copenhagen in March. We are monitoring and evaluating this situation closely, and are trying to learn all we can about the implementation of the Order and what it means in practical terms for the ICANN community, employees and Board in the near and longer term. ICANN remains committed to openness and accessibility. As we move forward, we will work together with the community to address issues such as meeting locations and travel. Dakar Workshop for NGOs on the Governance of the Internet

NPOC Colleagues, Late in March (March 23^rd ) in Dakar, Senegal, NPOC carried out a workshop for Senegalese NGOs. The workshop was funded by ICANN’s CROPP Program. The Title of the Workshop was*/: /**/Workshop for NGOs on the Governance of the Internet/*. The Workshop was presented by Poncelet Illeleji, from Gambia and Chair of the NPOC Policy Committee, and by Prof. Sam Lanfranco, from Canada and a constituency member of NPOC. A formal Workshop report is forthcoming. This is my (Sam Lanfranco) effort to share part of the workshop content with you. My presentation is available as a slide show (French cover page, content in English) at: // /http://www.slideshare.net/slanfranco/ngo-citizenship-in-the-internet-ecosystem-websites-vs-social-media/// My presentation focused on four main areas. * The meaning of NGO residency and citizenship in the Internet Ecosystem * The issues surrounding NGO uses of social media and/or Websites and Domain Names * A 4-step strategy for NGO ownership and use of a domain name space on the Internet. * The growing important of NGO engagement in Internet Governance This was followed by Poncelet’s focus on NGO engagement in the policy and program activities of ICANN.
