It pains me to have to send this to the group, but for those of you that have not heard, fellow IRT member, RySG member, colleague, friend and father (ages 3 and 11), Rubens Kuhl passed away. Thank you, Jeff, for relaying this news, as terrible as it is. My personal memory of Rubens is that of a very knowledgeable and gentle soul, who always contributed constructively to discussions in SubPro and SubPro IRT. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered. Kind regards, Justine On Tue, 4 Nov 2025 at 05:24, Jeff Neuman via SubPro-IRT < subpro-irt@icann.org> wrote:

What a terrible news! The Community has lost a prominent member. Rubens was a fellow GNSO councilor for two years, he was a great contributor to the group, as well as to many others. Always to the point, constructive and respectful of others. And very funny too, with a dry sense of humour. May he rest in peace. Extremely sad news. Rubens' gentle and calm voice conveyed messages with strength and passion. I’ll miss his cheeky grin and witty comments. We’ve sadly lost another dedicated friend and colleague, and much too soon. Rest in peace, Rubens. Thank you, Jeff. We are deeply saddened by this news. Rubens was on our most recent IRT call and, as always, provided thoughtful and constructive input - it feels impossible to think that he has passed away. The ICANN multistakeholder model relies on the dedication of its community, and Rubens has been a leading figure for many years, in this IRT, across numerous PDPs, and through his work on the GNSO Council and the RySG. His expertise and commitment have left a lasting mark and he will be greatly missed. Hello all, Adding to Lars’ comments and the condolences offered by IRT members, we also wanted to acknowledge Rubens’ invaluable contributions to the ASP and RSP sub tracks. He was a champion for both programs and demonstrated a deep understanding of the subject matter. His input to and advocacy for both programs left a mark, and we’re immensely grateful for his participation. I am stunned and so very sad to hear this news. Rubens was a quiet force and approached each issue with logic and balance. I could count on him to be the backstop on issues beyond my expertise. I felt if I got it wrong, Rubens would gently correct and all would be ok. So tragic to loose such a talented and wonderful person. Oh no!!! This is terrible news. He has always been an absolute pleasure to work with and a true fount of knowledge and practical experience, having served with him in SubPro, this IRT and the GNSO Council his input and steady influence into our discussion, especially in the technical and practical aspects of the DNS industry has been in my view pivotal. May he rest in peace. He will be sorely missed, and it is a tragedy that his family, have been denied longer with his love, care and guidance; they have my heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy. Jeff, thank you for letting us know.
