ICANN staff has reviewed the proposal including panel composition and scope, to ensure that requirements set forth in the LGR Procedure <http://www.icann.org/en/resources/idn/variant-tlds/lgr-procedure-20mar13-en…> [PDF, 772 KB], and in particular the criteria set forth in the Call for Generation Panels to Develop Root Zone Label Generation Rules <http://www.icann.org/en/news/announcements/announcement-11jul13-en.htm> , are fulfilled. ICANN would also like to use this opportunity to thank each of the members for offering their time and expertise to volunteer on the Arabic Script Generation Panel. With composition and work plan approved, the Arabic Script Generation Panel will start its work on the label generation rules. According to the LGR Procedure <http://www.icann.org/en/resources/idn/variant-tlds/lgr-procedure-20mar13-en…> [PDF, 772 KB], the starting point of any Generation Panel's work is the maximal set of code points defined by the Integration Panel as well as a set of Default Whole Label Variant Evaluation Rules. Update on the TF-AIDN

Friends and Colleagues, The Task Force on Arabic Script IDNs (TF-AIDN) submitted to ICANN last week the "Arabic Script Generation Panel (GP) Document" as part of the Variant IDN Project (VIP). The Arabic script community is the only linguistic community to submit a GP document as shown at https://community.icann.org/display/croscomlgrprocedure/Project+Status+Updat es. After the submission, members of the TF-AIDN were in consensus that it would be wise to provide access to the document and request feedback from the IDN community at-large, and so ICANN obliged to this request. The above website was updated accordingly to provide access to the document and announce the call for feedback. Please disseminate the message across your networks and relevant contacts. The deadline for receiving any feedback is February 12. This workspace provides information on the Procedure, additional setup guidelines for the Integration and Generation Panels, work status updates, reports, panel memberships, and contact information, etc. The workspace will be maintained by ICANN staff and will be regularly updated with work status developments provided by formed Panels. Therefore ICANN is soliciting the participation of subject matter experts to serve on the Integration Panel and advisors to the Integration and Generation Panels. The Integration Panel will be comprised of a small number of technical experts in the following areas: DNS, IDNA, Unicode, and linguistics.
