Welcome and call planning
Dear participants to the Human Rights Design Team as part of the CCWG Workstream 2 (CCWG WS2 HR DT), It's a great pleasure to welcome you here on behalf of Nigel and myself, as co-rapporteurs of this design team. We have quite some exciting work ahead of us for the coming time. In order to get our work started on the deliverables that we are supposed to deliver to the CCWG, it would be good if we first had a call where we could jointly discuss our objectives, and the way we could get there. In order to do this we will first need to decide on the timeslot(s) and day(s) of the week we will have our weekly one hour calls. ICANN has offered us timeslots at 0600, 1200 and 1900 UTC on all days of the week (for us to share with the other design teams). I would like to check with you what your preferred days and times are, and whether you would like to dynamically change the days and/or times. In order to get your feedback I setup three polls. Could you please respond before Wednesday August 3 so we can get the planning process going and we can start discussing. Indigenous peoples have not been neglected in ICANN discussions. One of the reasons the community exception was built into the new GTLD policy and then implementation process was specifically to give indigenous groups and other "non-modern economy" groups the chance to defend terms which were important to them - but which were not specifically covered by intellectual property law. The illustrative "dot maori" was referred to often during the policy making process. It is also an illustration of how policies put in place for a specific purpose have been utilised more generally by the domain name communty/industry. Such a rule of unintended consequence is one which this working group will need to consider carefully in its work. Paul Twomey On 7/30/16 9:50 AM, Chris LaHatte wrote:

Dear participants to the Human Rights Design Team as part of the CCWG Workstream 2 (CCWG WS2 HR DT),
It's a great pleasure to welcome you here on behalf of Nigel and myself, as co-rapporteurs of this design team. We have quite some exciting work ahead of us for the coming time.
In order to get our work started on the deliverables that we are supposed to deliver to the CCWG, it would be good if we first had a call where we could jointly discuss our objectives, and the way we could get there.
In order to do this we will first need to decide on the timeslot(s) and
day(s) of the week we will have our weekly one hour calls.

I'm greatly looking forward to work with you on this.

Dear all, I would like to thank you all very much for participating in the online polls. With an overwhelming majority (26/30) you chose that you would like to have the meetings on a fixed day, at a fixed time. There was also a consensus (30/38) that the time to do this should be 1900 UTC. The most contested decision was for the appropriate day. 29/36 voted for Tuesday, and 27/36 voted for Thursday. So taking into account that there was a strong consensus for a static day and time I've asked the secretariat to reserve a weekly meeting slot for us on Tuesday for the rest of the year. We'll be starting with our weekly meeting on the 16th of August at 19:00 UTC (since next week we already have a CCWG plenary planned on Tuesday). You will receive invites for these meetings from the secretariat shortly, and of course you will receive a proposed agenda and slides from the co-chairs before the meeting. Thanks you very much for participating in this poll. Best, Niels On 07/29/2016 04:49 PM, Niels ten Oever wrote:

Best,
Niels

Dear participants to the Human Rights Design Team as part of the CCWG Workstream 2 (CCWG WS2 HR DT),
It's a great pleasure to welcome you here on behalf of Nigel and myself, as co-rapporteurs of this design team. We have quite some exciting work ahead of us for the coming time.
In order to get our work started on the deliverables that we are supposed to deliver to the CCWG, it would be good if we first had a call where we could jointly discuss our objectives, and the way we could get there.

I'm greatly looking forward to work with you on this.
