Agenda for ccNSO/Board meeting Toronto
Dear Councillors, In preparation for the meeting with the ICANN Board in Toronto, we have been requested to define items for discussion. The topics need to be submitted by the 3rd October. Please, could you send any items you think would be worth bringing up with the ICANN Board to this email list by 2nd October. Thanks! Gabi
Hi Gabi, I'd be interested to hear (again) the Board's vision and strategy for WCIT. Probably it is somewhat more detailed by now compared to the vague response we got in Prague. And I want to hear the Board's views - not Nigel's. I fully second that. Also the Nigel bit.. Additional suggestions: * Where are we on ICANN's role and remit on SSR (the comment period is over) * ICANN's request for (community) input on Consumer, Choice and Trust Metrics: is this the right approach whereby ICANN doesn't publish its own vision and intentions first? Can we expect more of that (I truly hope not) * The main issues for the Board re the new gTLD process for the period after Toronto * Maybe a brief heads up on ccTLD contributions...? * Cheers, Roelof From: owner-ccnso-council@icann.org [mailto:owner-ccnso-council@icann.org] On Behalf Of Peter Van Roste Sent: donderdag 27 september 2012 14:33 To: 'Gabriella Schittek'; 'ccNSO Council' Subject: RE: [ccnso-council] Agenda for ccNSO/Board meeting Toronto Hi Gabi, I'd be interested to hear (again) the Board's vision and strategy for WCIT. Thanks Roelof. It is good that we have seven question areas so far, but experience has shown that 3 or 4 questions are about the right number – given also that there will be questions from the Board for the ccNSO. On the Consumer Choice & Trust metrics, we agreed on our last call that we would incorporate this feedback into the ccNSO response. I wonder therefore whether we could drop this one? Also, do you have any feel for whether there is a question to be asked/or a point to be made on the new Strategic plan please? Oh, and ehh; IANA! As the recently published draft Strategic Plan contains the following: The current multi-year contract expireswas renewed in 2012. ICANN is well positioned to compete for the award, and expects to continue to operate the IANA function, through September 2015, with two renewal two-year options. And nothing on this in http://www.icann.org/en/news Roelof. This would be the top question on my list too. Nigels view is useful, but ICANNs overarching strategy for ICANN engagement in WCIT is very much the property of the board, so we need a carefully crafted question that the Board cant deflect on to Nigel... My suggested item would be on the possible plan/status regarding ICANN role toward developing countries. Sometime ago there was even an initiative for having an ICANN Summit on Developing Countries. Currently, as part of the work group on Community Outreach, I hear a lot of talk about inreach and outreach, but no concrete activities to improve especially outreach. Sokol, all That may be a worthy item too, and I suppose ICANN should be able to answer this now that the new CEO is on board. He already asked the Africa region (during ICANN Prague) to propose a strategy for ICANN to engage with Africa. That work is going fairly well as a team of African reps was set up to propose a strategy based on Africa's community input, and will present the draft strategy in Toronto. I hear the same is expected of the Latin America & Caribbean region.
