I'm writing to oppose giving Verisign even more market power in domain registrations, which would mean price increases. The openness of the Internet to all participants, large and small, is vital. As a very small scale owner of two domain names, I am far from alone in wanting to be able to afford an internet presence in the future.

Dear sir or madam I wonder why prices should increase for .com domains? After all, this is a scale business, and the number of registrations increases, so the cost per domain should decrease. Please use standard business practices and try to behave like a private company in a non-monopolistic environment, thanks! Marco Rocchi

I am a registrant of a .com domain name. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. If price hiking is merely for covering necessary governance costs, I would agree in order to ensure quality of service. If price hiking is merely for profit, I disagree under the premise that the internet is a public infrastructure. If price hiking is to address cybersquatting domain naim abuse by making it less profitable for abusers (who buy thousands of $5 domains to just put them for sale for $5,000 each without adding $5,000 of value, then I have a big problem - that would be making the good cybercitizens pay for both the bad AND proof that ICAAN can’t do their job WHILE amassing a ton of profit which instead should be used as a fund to attack cybersquatting! In short, I disagree because no reason is being given to justify price hiking. “No taxation without representation!” So, my simple question to price hiking is ”WHY?” Antonio Robateau Panama City, Panama Antonio Robateau

ICANN is supposed to be an altruistic organisation - getting too involved with commercial interests when you have been entrusted (note the 'trust' part of that word) is shameful. It's obvious you need to cover your costs, but this goes too far and is scandalous. Yours Sincerely, Andrew Magerman

I am a registrant of a .com domain name. I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. Of course I’m against the propose Amendment. Security and optimal functioning should not come at the expense of the public. An increased fee on this time of economical insecurities is only going to affect small businesses and internet related companies across the globe. I'm not ok with the Verisign deal to increase the price of .com domains. I wasn't informed, and this is at the wholesale level, which affects all competition and options.
