The amendment as proposed will almost definitely make it more expensive to operate a website, which undermines the creative entrepreneurship that makes the Internet one of the greatest inventions and tools in human history. This decision smacks of greed and a focus on short-term gain over responsible stewardship over an important piece of the Internet. Please let reason and the voices of the people who use the Internet guide how ICANN makes this choice instead of benefiting the privileged few. Sincerely, Chris Frisz

.COM domains, like all domains, are shared global infrastructure. Along with the recent gutting of protections regarding .ORG domains, moves like this are likely to lead to significant infrastructure issues and cause many hosts to either consolidate their web operations or cease operating entirely. That's unacceptable.

ICANN must operate with full transparency if you want to earn back the public’s trust. The Internet may be the very first global public trust and ICANN must manage it for the common good of global citizens. The power and creativity of the Internet was fueled by accessibility. If Verisign purchases the ability to become a domain registrar, directly or through an intermediary, Internet accessibility and creativity will be diminished. Keep caps on .com prices. Please consider other options to meet your needs, whatever they are. The vast majority of us are special needs type people trying to remain responsible and accountable for our families and our lives. In my case I am supposed to be retired, instead I am the only support system for my mentally ill daughter. My little writer’s coaching business is barely making ends meet. If you cut into our tiny margin of profitability, many of us in similar circumstance will go under and society will pay the price. Maybe that is your goal, I don’t know. Why would you want to make the price of .com domains more expensive? Most mom and pop shops use .com domains to get customers. For YEARS having a .com was known to be the BEST and easiest to remember. I'm a web designer and internet marketer, my customers always ask for . com FIRST before anything else. When you make it so that the small mom n pop stores can't afford to get a .com because ICANN and VeriSign are GREEDY, this also effects the economy. I disagree with the price increase. I believe by doing this it could cause LESS .com registrations and MORE hardships for small businesses! Teresa Keiser
