Hello, I am writing to voice my opposition to Proposed Amendment 3. Despite there clearly being potential financial gains to be had by raising the registration fee on .com domains, the global DNS registration system should be run primarily as a public concern. The proposed price hike for the .com registry, which was negotiated in secret, runs counter to the philosophy of transparency of the Internet. Increasing costs to run a business online will undoubtedly have a negative impact of small business operators with a skewed impact outside of the U.S. This amendment should be completely voted down.

Having your own domain has allowed small businesses blossom into enterprises. Just think about a guy looking to sell books online, now being one of the busy retailers ever. Or the algorithm that started the most used search engine in the world. All of these started by people with a little money and a dream. Don't raise the bar for the little guy.

You should be working to lower the prices not the opposite. By being increasing prices you are making the internet less democratic. At least it could be a lower increase. But that's not a surprise coming from a monopoly. As it would not be a surprise to hear about corruption coming from ICANN just like happened with FIFA.

Dear ICANN Please do not move forward and allow Verisign to increase the wholesale prices it charges for .com domains. The price increases that would be allowed under your plan would be outrageous, would stifle new entrants, aren’t based on any demontrasted and auditable need by Verisign and are contrary to the principles the Internet was founded on. This kind of price increase would mean that I won’t be able to setup new businesses as easily and will likely discourage me from even trying.
