It is unfair to let Verisign charge so much for .com registry. There is no reason it is so expensive to register a domain. Domains are now so plentiful and everybody depends on them to do business. There should be a decreasing price, not an increasing one. There is no reason to let Verisign abuse customers and when ICANN takes a huge multi-million dollar chunk of it, clearly we know there is corruption all around the system. Stop the corruption. Do not raise .com prices.

Hello, Following reviewing the documentation I see several issues with the proposed amendments. There appears to be no clear binding requirement nor oversight on what the proposed additional funds would be spent on. Further, the proposal to raise the wholesale price of internet domains poses a significant threat to freedom of expression. By allowing the costs to increase exponentially, it raises a spectre that only those of wealth will be able to afford to publish opinions, resulting in a narrower and less diverse field of opinions and expressions. This is a situation that is concerning at best and terrifyingly dangerous at worse. I encourage all members to amend this and keep the costs fixed for the good of all as well as increasing transparency on where funds come from and where they go. We hold a number of .com domains and are writing to express our desire that rates on these and other domains remain steady and certainly not increase 7%. This increase will have a negative impact on nonprofit, school, and community organizations. The new tax code is already challenging funding support with the treatment of deductions for donations to organizations. While the .com extension is designed for businesses, smart nonprofits realize they are a business and have a brand to protect. While they may use a .ORG address as a nonprofit, digital strategy tells you to buy up similar domains like .COM, .CO, .INFO to help insulate and prevent spoofing and cyber-harassment and brand confusion. Increases to domain names cost nonprofits considerably just to protect themselves and their constituents from imposters. Please help keep .COM pricing steady and do not raise these rates. ICANN and Verisign Inc. in the new world (information age) of the internet sound very much like the railroads in the old world (industrial age). Both ICANN and Verisign Inc. have “natural monopolies” which came from government authorizations, just like the railroads did.Private contracts are very difficult things to find out about.Finances are difficult to unravel.From what little I know, it appears that ICANN and Verisign Inc. are more, but not much more transparent than the railroads’ private contracts and finances. Individuals within the corporations which owned the railroads became very wealthy largely due to insider private contracts and opaque financial transactions.The railroads ended up being regulated by the federal and state governments because of their “natural monopolies” and their regard for personal profit over public welfare. In other words, in the industrial age the government gave the railroads a monopoly, protected that monopoly, allowed greed to run rampant until it became repeatedly painfully obtuse, then regulated them.This is a similar situation, not exact, to the monopoly the government has allowed ICANN and Verisign, Inc. to have in the information age.History repeats itself. I have legitimate and reasonable concerns that the monopoly (ICANN and Verisign Inc.) that the government has allowed to govern the domain area will result in higher prices to the consumer.Unfortunately, corporations and individuals need to be restrained or greed usually prevails.Put price restraints of some sort on increases for domain names.

This proposed amendment seems to be disregard consideration for a significant number of .com domain registrants who are legitimate small businesses. Isn’t one of ICANN objectives to ensure fair regulations on domain names registration and fees? Thanks and regards.
