The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. I hope you will take my concerns seriously as many others are of the same opinion. I own at least 20 domain names that I use for various reasons such as family, my small business, my wife's small business, and even a few projects. Domain names are something we must all use. They are not optional. For that reason alone and for the continued openness of the internet and communication, domains should be getting cheaper not more expensive. Please consider the millions of small business owners and personal projects as well. Many of us are already trying to find ways to get the prices lower. Raising them would force us to cut off certain projects and businesses. Not to mention the most important effects, the internet will be even less open. What you're doing is wrong.

I strongly oppose the Amendment 3. ICANN may have the right to receive more monetary support. However I am troubled with that fact that ICANN has a monopoly over the .com and doesn't have a price cap on what they can charge. The domain name system has been set up for the public interest. To stay fair for all parties involved it should continue to operate as such. Without a price cap we run a huge risk creating an environment where only large companies can participate on the internet. I strongly recommend that ICANN to not adopt this proposal, re-review the proposed amendment and consider replacing the price cap (albeit higher). Best regards, Jason Rogers UT, United States
