To Whom it May Concern, ICANN has for years been respected by many webmasters, industry professionals and millions of people to maintain standards within the industry and act as good stewards of the Internet. We discover now that this was a mistake and that ICANN has and never will have the Internet and users of this incredible "co-built community" best interest in mind. Do you really, truly think that this backhand shady deal that will ultimately piss-off millions will not result in you being slapped silly for the move? I don't speak of anything I know and I'm not threatening you in any way, but you know the world, you know people online and you know the power of change. Destroy the Internet, a replacement will come extremely quickly, and you'll end up with nothing except tarnished names. Continue acting as good stewards and trustful individuals, and I don't think your downfall will be so harsh. Either way, I'm formally just one person letting you know that it's a mistake to do things in the dark, especially when I'm sure you all have so much that will come to light.

As an developer, domain name registrant, and avid user of the internet, I am here to add my complaint to the Jan 3. Agreement that ICANN has made with Verisign, Inc. re: operation of the top-level domain (TLD) .COM. The potential for significant price increase over the next 10 years is simply unacceptable; there seems to be justification given for this increase. That ICANN is receiving money from Verisign for this “deal”, without any explanation or description on how the money will be spent, or any sort of oversight, just makes it look like ICANN is receiving a kickback for this contract update that does nothing but put a financial squeeze on the customer. Additionally, allowing Verisign to operate as a registrar goes counter the original purpose of the contract; it reduces competition and choice, and ultimately harms the registry market. Having a platform compete with its users never turns out well; this move also makes it look like Verisign is making a cash grab, and paying off ICANN to look the other way. I expected better of ICANN. At the very least, these changes should have had more public feedback before being put into place. Please rescind these changes immediately, and allow a more thorough, data-driven and community-discussed process to take effect for these kinds of updates. The internet should not be a platform run in secret, and should promote values beyond a naked profit motive. Sincerely, Charlie Ozinga

.com domains are the most trusted domains and gives the average person A legitimate chance to start their own website and online business. Raising prices without any set standards or giving the people a chance to lock In domains for an extended period of time… is not fair.
