ICANN69 Schedule Is Now Available

Dear RSSAC Caucus, On Monday, 28 September, ICANN published the schedule for ICANN69, Virtual Annual General Meeting. ICANN69 will be composed of Community Days (13-15 October) and Plenary Week (19-22 October). In addition, there will be a Prep Week (5-8 October) to help prepare the community for ICANN69. In order to access the schedule, you must first register for ICANN69 here: https://events.icann.org/icann69-agm/registration. Once you have registered, you will be able to access the schedule here: https://69.schedule.icann.org/, sign-up for the sessions of interest and create your agenda. Please note that participation links will only be published one day prior to the session for security purposes. RSSAC Caucus Membership Survey

(This message has been sent on behalf of the RSSAC Caucus Membership Committee) Dear RSSAC Caucus , The RSSAC annual work plan<https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/rssac-work-plan-05feb20-en.pdf> suggests the RSSAC Caucus Membership Committee to conduct an annual membership survey for the RSSAC Caucus in August/September. The goal is to evaluate the level of engagement in the RSSAC Caucus every year. You will receive a link to the survey from Ozan Sahin, support staff for the RSSAC Caucus Membership Committee. The survey will take between 7 to 10 minutes to complete depending on any comments you may provide. Please complete the survey by Tuesday, 29 September. I want to add the following on "Government wanting to Improve General Internet Connectivity/Access" that was discussed in the "RSSAC: User Narratives for the Local Perspective Tool Work Party". Apologies if this is the wrong list (please point me to the right one if there is a different one for it). Though the currently described measurements appear weak, this topic itself is a real concern. In June 2018 I got a phone call from a person at meity.gov.in where they expressed that they were concerned about the number of root zone queries that were exiting India. In those days, routing was crappy too. I am in Chennai and there is an F instance in Chennai run by Cloudflare, and there was an ISC F instance in Chennai before that too. But my route to it went through Mumbai which is a far away city. It's like touching your nose circling your head. There are two aspects here: * The latency and performance of access (where a geographically distant root instance may have a smaller RTT and fewer hops) which may matter to end users as user experience * The concern from government about resolutions being dependent on infrastructure outside the country, which may matter to governments for reasons other than user experience We may not need to make measurements via resolvers for this. We may be able to assume that anyone may want to run a resolver, and measure RTT, hopcount?, manually look at NSIDs and any other metrics that anycast service operators use to check if users reach the closest/fastest pop to them. We can also figure out if users reach root instances in their own country or not (as much as this can be determined, perhaps by following the route). Mukund

Tool Work Party User Narratives

Dear RSSAC Caucus Members, The RSSAC Caucus Tool Work Party has been discussing user groups that would benefit from a local perspective tool. What I left out from the narratives is which measurements each user group would likely require to accomplish this. This is the next step, and primarily what we will be talking about on our next call on August 24th.
