Hi folks, The 32nd DNS-OARC Workshop will take place at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco in San Francisco, California, USA on February 8th 2020. It is co-located with and will take place right before NANOG 78 (Feb 10th to Feb 12th 2020). The Workshop's Program Committee is now requesting proposals for presentations. All DNS-related subjects are welcome. Workshop Milestones: 28 Sep 2019 - Submissions open via Indico 07 Dec 2019 - Deadline for submission (23:59 PT) 20 Dec 2019 - Initial Contribution list published 03 Jan 2020 - Full agenda published 24 Jan 2020 - Deadline for slideset submission 08 Feb 2020 - Workshop Details for presentation submission are published here: <https://indico.dns-oarc.net/event/33/call-for-abstracts/> The workshop presentations will be organized by common themes, depending on the topics and the timing of each presentation. There are 30-minute and 15-minute slots, let us know your preference in your submission. To allow the Programme Committee to make objective assessments of submissions, so as to ensure the quality of the workshop, submissions SHOULD include slides. Draft slides are acceptable on submission. Updating RSSAC023

Dear RSSAC Caucus Members, RSSAC023: History of the Root Server System was published in November of 2016. The RSSAC has decided that it is time to update RSSAC023 with information that is not currently in it. Information such as: -The IANA transition -Jon Postel’s DNS Root Provision Experiment -Updated individual RSO histories -A process for updating RSSAC023 in the future We have a working version of RSSAC023v2. <https://docs.google.com/document/d/16FaQzGJnqBsy5zk4xmLPU2v7FUqLQT8readmSYI…> To see RSSAC023v2 through to publication we can start discussing this on this mailing list, and if necessary schedule calls for discussion. The RSSAC Admin Committee would like to forego the heavy approach of forming a work party and instead have all discussion on this list. They would also like a Caucus member to help guide this effort, sticking with it through to publication and providing updates along the way. If you are interested in helping to guide the work of creating RSSAC023v2 please respond to this mail and indicate your interest. Updating RSSAC026

Dear RSSAC Caucus, As part of the effort of the RSSAC Caucus Metrics Work Party it was determined that the definitions in RSSAC026 also need updating. The goal is to align definitions in RSSAC026v2 with the definitions of terms coming out the metrics work as well as update any other definitions that require it. Metrics work party update

Dear RSSAC Caucus, Last week there was an RSSAC workshop and extended meeting of the RSS metrics work party. We made good progress on a number of open issues, refined some of the metrics, and came up with some proposed thresholds. The attached PDF slide set was presented at the end as a summary of what we accomplished over the two previous days. One item for which we still do not have consensus is the RSS Availability metric. That is, the method proposed in slide 14 of the attached PDF is still under discussion and not finalized at this time. Look for further discussion here and/or in the google document. Our next work party meeting is scheduled for October 17th. Between now and then I plan to work on the document to address and resolve many of the comments that were recently added, and to make updates reflecting the decisions that we made. We will go over the important changes then. DW

Threat Mitigation for the Root Server System

Hi all, I noticed this document today, published last month: https://root-servers.org/publications/Threat_Mitigation_For_the_Root_Server… <https://root-servers.org/publications/Threat_Mitigation_For_the_Root_Server…> Although I haven't gone through it in detail and could no doubt come up with some comments if I was asked to review it, this looks like a nice document. It'd be nice if it was citable and easier to find. Is there a reason it wasn't published through the RSSAC process? Or is the audience of this document other root server operators, and its publication a (welcome!) exercise in transparency? The introduction contains the phrase "Root Ops community" but I find that slightly ambiguous. I realise I'm crossing the streams a bit by asking here, but it seems like the right people will hear the question, and others here might be interested in the answer. Also if it's entirely obvious to everybody else here why this has happened the resulting public beating with clue bats will surely be therapeutic. Joe
