During the meeting there was a strong agreement out of the group that the 7 elements of diversity are the foundation. Beyond this, there is also an agreement that individual groups are empowered to build upon those 7 elements, currently GAC and LACRALO are discussing and reported to this group about their discussions. First agenda item was about the proposed no-impediments language for three elements, it was decided that the group would follow the language of the report, therefore instead of “disability,” “physical disability” will be used in the language. However, a footnote will be added to the document for clarification. Below you can find the proposed footnote: Usage of the term “physical disability” reflects the approved language from the Final Work Stream 2 Report; however, there is an understanding that the category of “disability” should not be limited to obvious physical challenges. Presuming that individuals otherwise meet the qualification criteria and experience required, lowering barriers to participation is vital and does not entail quotas or preferential treatment. After the discussion on three elements, group started discussing geographical diversity, one of the remaining four elements, some members gave a historical context regarding ICANN regions and how subregions are being used in some of the groups. Later, the linked document<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NSXWFm7e7BpuPnaI9IOOTBOfhGoa5WB7qv4…> was shared that includes diversity references in groups’ governance documents, that document was created as a tool that will help groups to see each other’s good practices. It is a living document, so please feel free to work on the document and let us know what you think. Our next meeting was scheduled for 4 October 2022, and we will send the meeting agenda two weeks prior to the meeting. Attendees agreed that designation of a chair is not necessary at this time. Topic leads can be appointed on an "as needed" basis and the group can revisit the question of a Chair if the need arises. 3. Call times. Attendees agreed to keep Tuesday, 13-14 UTC as a one of two rotating meeting times. The second (rotating) time remains to be determined (likely via a Doodle poll). 4. Frequency of calls. Attendees agreed to have an initial call frequency of once a month, with proposed agendas circulated by staff two weeks prior to a meeting if possible. 5. Progress reports. 12 July Action Item Updates and Proposed 4 August Agenda

Thank you all for your participation in the 12 July CCG call. The session recording can be found here: https://icann.zoom.us/rec/play/t_8jfH8v6aClDd_4fgvljIsF_nrumuoOFRnbkp0MZSQf… Contributions made on the call and on the list have demonstrated that CCG participants agree that the 7 elements of diversity detailed in the WS2 Final Report encapsulate a shared foundational understanding of diversity. While subsequent conversations are likely necessary to ensure all elements are clear, sufficiently meaningful, and can be implemented in each community as they stand, the best use of group time and consultant efforts might be found focusing on how individual groups navigate implementation of elements in various situations. ACTION ITEMS CCG members on the call agreed that the 7 elements of diversity detailed in the WS2 Final Report are a shared foundation of diversity within the ICANN community. Individual community groups are empowered to expand upon these areas of common understanding as best fits the needs of their respective communities. Those on the call further agreed that the ICANN community seeks to ensure there are no impediments to participation within the ICANN community based on the diversity elements of gender, age, and disability. Here you will find the relevant proposed language: The ICANN community strives to ensure that there are no impediments or discrimination towards existing or potential community members based on the diversity elements of gender, age, and disability. While discussing how to best utilize the DEI consulting team, community members requested more information. Attached you will find biographies and other information about Advisory83. NEXT STEPS In preparation for our next call, 4 August at 20:00 UTC, we ask you are prepared to share feedback on the following: * The proposed no impediment language regarding age, gender, and disability detailed above. * Any questions or clarification regarding the remaining 4 elements of diversity (geographic/regional representation, language, diverse skills, and SG/C) as a foundation of common understanding, noting that the SG/C element may not be applicable across the entire community. Hi Everyone, Once again, my sincere apologies for missing most of the meeting on 12 July. I have since then listened to the meeting recording and wish to offer some comments that I would have made if I’d been online earlier in the hour. With regard to the 7 elements of Diversity in the WS2 Report, the SSAC certainly supports these elements as a common starting point. Indeed, the following SSAC Correspondence documents are relevant: - SSAC2018-02 dated 3 January 2018 noted in its review of the WS2 Draft Recommendations to Improve Diversity that “The SSAC is generally supportive of the recommendations and notes the observation that the elements of diversity identified in the report may have varying importance in different contexts, situations or groups within ICANN." - SSAC2018-25 dated 3 October 2018 advised of the SSAC Approval of the CCWG-Accountability-WS2 Final Report (encompassing the Diversity Recommendations). In offering this support, I agree with the comments offered by Pam during the meeting (minute 27) that not all elements are applicable in every situation, and Pam observed that this was also acknowledged in the WS2 Report (“…all identified elements of diversity are relevant and may have varying importance in different contexts, situations, or groups within ICANN.”) Sebastien commented much later in the meeting (minute 49) that he felt that the 7th element (Stakeholder Group or Constituency) “...is not a diversity issue at the level of each group. It is a diversity issue at the global level. …We don’t need to take that into account…”. I do see that for most SO/ACs, this element is probably not relevant, but had I been on the call, I would have made the point in response to Sebastien that this element is relevant for the SSAC. The SSAC seeks members with SSR (Security, Stability and Resiliency) skills and experience from a range of stakeholder backgrounds so that its advice can be well-informed by input from these different perspectives. In any case, given that this element is relevant “at the global level” which I interpret to mean for the Board and groups such as the NomCom, then I do think it should remain on the list. In response to my comments on taking a “no impediment/no discrimination" approach for elements such as age, gender and disability rather than a “meet a quota” approach, Sebastien commented, using age as an example, that “..we can’t put that aside…” (minute 56). I really don’t think our views disagree too much, Sebastien. These elements are important, and should not be put aside, but I think there are sensitivities involved if you try to collect data on them or follow a “representational” approach. What I was trying to say was that these elements need to be addressed slightly differently to achieve the desired outcome. To finish off, I thought I would share a brief summary of what the SSAC has done following the approval of the WS2 report by the Board. The SSAC has taken this report, and specifically the Diversity Recommendations, into account in its annual review of membership by the SSAC Administrative Committee as well as in the work of the Membership Committee. I have summarized this in the attached document titled: SSAC Implementation of Diversity Recommendation 1. As such, we’d like to hear from each of you regarding considerations your group needs/seeks from the consultant, for example, is there a specific diversity element your group would appreciate additional subject matter expertise on, or is there a specific element of implementation that you're having difficulty grappling with in the context of your group's needs. In addition to that we envisage that fourth item of the agenda will include updates from SO/AC/Groups regarding the diversity recommendation 1.1.
