Dear Collegues, As a follow-up on our previous exchange and my correspondence to Xavier Calvez, please receive herewith the draft of the letter I would like tos end to Steve Crocker and Fadi Chehade re the lack of any reasonable responses and or actions to improve based on the comments the SOP has submitted over the years. Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions to change, if at all possible before the end of Friday Best regards, Roelof Meijer
Hi Roelof, Thanks for this excellent letter. My only suggestion would be to add some concrete asks. My concern is that otherwise we will again receive a reply along the lines of the memorable: "I have initiated internally a process to analyze the public comments/responses process for the budget to: * lay out and diagnose the issues/shortcomings (including seeking additional feedback from other community organizations) * Draft a target approach / Share and obtain feedback * Implement the target approach." Therefore I would ask for: 1. Proper responses to our questions from the previous letter by November 8th (Which gives us a week to digest and discuss on November 17) 2. An overview of actions to remedy the problems to be presented at the ccNSO meeting. 3. A revised timeline for the SOP cycle to be presented at the ccNSO meeting (Which must be impacted by the delay in the Strat Planning consultation) 4. A commitment from the board to get this solved. (Not just an acknowledgement that they are aware of the issues.) Hi, Roelof, the draft is fine with me . ICANN just released its series of "Strategy Panels". http://www.icann.org/en/news/announcements/announcement-14oct13-en.htm. I wonder whether they are relevant to our comments on the strategy planning. Or, ICANN simply attempts to create another process to fix the problems in the existing process. Hello, I also think the point is very clear but my believe is that a stronger ending is needed. Something in the line of ... we expect to have some concrete responses from Icann in order to show them in the usual SOPWG presentation at the next ccnso meeting but not only showing the WG requests/suggestions to Icann but also the responses from Icann to the WG thus to the cctld community. However, I suggest that for the 2nd example of the 23.8 pct increase in expenses the two-sentence response be quoted and inserted in the letter. Hi, I support the letter and the comments made thus far. However, on reading it afresh this morning, I think there is a bit of a risk that the more we add, the less impactful it becomes. I suggest that the ending could do with strengthening – it kind of feels to me as though it tails off. Suggest something like the attached (and I have re-ordered the final paragraphs and corrected typos). I think the additional efforts by Lesley and Becky are good, and offer some further marked up enhancements to the text in the attached... Whilst I don't want to diminish the strength of feeling in the letter, it still read a little too emotionally for me, so I think the attached helps to remedy that.
