Hello, I am writing to register opposition to the proposed amendment. The amendment includes financial changes that will affect end users of the .com TLD, such as myself. End users have not received a full explanation of precisely what would justify these changes in cost. The amendment's explanation is vague, non-committal and insufficient. Furthermore, the amendment specifies a financial arrangement between ICANN and Verisign for millions of dollars to complete "good faith" projects, which are also not precisely defined or specified to any acceptable degree. ICANN should reject this amendment and return with a new proposal that is more detailed and maximizes transparency of any financial transactions or financial changes that will be transferred to end users. -Seth Hall, Organizer TechLEAD San Diego techleadsd.org

First, the lack of public consultation speaks of backdoor corporate wangling; second, the price increases are going to affect those of us in the developing world disproportionately, making the internet even more unequal. For many people in the developing world, a legitimate website essentially means a name ending with .com - already these domains are much more expensive and unique names are hard to find. Increasing costs like this is criminal - those in the developing world can't afford to be paying this yearly fee to what is effectively a monopoly.

Internet means free flow of information without barriers like money or government or contracts. For $20 million dollar change what wonders will you do? Increase two cents per each domain renewal. I am a domainer (I invest in domain names as a business). I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. No one other than Verisign want increases in .COM prices. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price. ICANN is supposed to govern the domain name system in the public interest. WH Shinn Ft Mill Dear ICANN: I am owner of over 350 domains, mostly .COM and I am against the proposed price increase to .COM domains. The current rate of $7.85 is already far more than justified due to the fact that technology and services should decrease in value over time and not increase. Only products and services that rely heavily on “raw materials” to produce or operate should have an increase comparable to the cost of those materials or equivalent to the inflation rate. Verisign is merely your manager of the .COM Registry – it has no business dictating the price, and no justification in increasing the price.
