Clarification about my participation.

Hello all, As I joined the GP not long ago and was mentioned during the Dublin meeting, I want to clarify what I discussed with Yuri. Unfortunately I was absent in Dublin and could not say it myself :-) I am able to contact a linguist who can say which symbols can "interfere" with Cyrillic script at least about some other scripts from the list provided by Yuri. He also can comment which symbols from the "interfering" are used more or less often. The list contains the follow languages: Greek, Armenian, Georgian, Coptic. May be he will be able to consult about some languages using the Cyrillic script. As he is not a geek, I will be able to adopt the GP requests to make them understandable for him. It will be much better (at least, much simpler) if this work will be funded in this or that way. I myself am ready to participate in reading, commenting and writing some parts of documents if I am competent in the topics of them. I hope to be useful. Thank you! -- SY, Dmitry Belyavsky

John Klensin: FWIW, part of that discussion is why I dislke trying to establish uniform LGR rules at the 2nd level so much. If a domain is already established as "Russian" or "Serbian" at the TLD level, I think it is likely to be quite reasonable to use Russian-specific or Serbian-specific characters (respectively and not both in the same label) at the second level as long as people are careful about cross-tree aliases and remember that the DNS can't enforce the rules. At the top level, howver, there are many advantages to being very, very, conservative. John Klensin: It would be _really_ nice if people would consistently use ISO-style dates (YYYY-MM-DD [HH:MM) in documents like this. Saves a lot of confusion.] Daniel Kalchev: John, I very much agree on both points. John Klensin: Getting ahead of the plan document, an additional thought about , e.g., "established as Russian", "identified as Servian", etc. at the top level (also applies to other scripts probably at a whole-label level above the lGR process): identification of that sort should depend on something very explicit, not depending on users figuring it out from subtle clues like the presence or absence of language-specific characters. Resignation (and letter to linguists)

Hi, After a considerable amount of deliberation I regret to say I have to resign from this working group. I think the work of the Cyrillic Generation Panel is important and may have serious effect on Cyrillic TLDs. As such, it is very important that the work is done under the highest standards of policymaking professionalism in a truly bottom-up multistakeholder process. Unfortunately, this is not what's currently happening. This rant isn't personal at all. I fully respect Yuri, and wish him all the best both personally and professionally. However, I do not believe this group can proceed with leadership being just assigned top-down, with no input from the group. I noted it on almost every occasion in the last year, but with the same practice continuing, and having no further recourse, I unfortunately have no choice but to stop my participation. Please kindly delete my name from the list of members. I will be very happy to rejoin when and if the group decides to use bottom-up processes such as election of leadership. I owed the group a draft letter to linguists proposed by Nicholas Ostler which I completed today - please see it in the attachment. All the best, Vladimir Shadrunov
