RSSAC Caucus Travel Support for IETF 116 Yokohama, Japan

Dear RSSAC Caucus members, RSSAC Admin Committee understands that ICANN organization may be sharing new sponsered travel information and guidancefor ICANN community to attend non-ICANN events in the next weeks. As a result, travel support to attend even-numbered IETF meetings may be available once again. In order to not miss the relevant notice periods, RSSAC Admin Committee would like to start the selection process to identify sponsered RSSAC Caucus members to attend the next IETF meeting. IETF 116 will take place in Yokohama, Japan from 25 - 31 March 2023. Pending the travel advice from ICANN organization, there may be travel support for up to four (4) RSSAC Caucus Members to attend IETF 116 including economy class airfare, accommodation, registration, and per diem. As you may remember, RSSAC approved guidelines for RSSAC Caucus members requesting travel support to attend even-numbered IETF meetings in 2019. Please see the approved guidelines attached. Depending on how many requests we receive, the RSSAC Administrative Committee may need to make the selection based on the selection criteria outlined in the guidelines. Nomination Period: RSSAC Liaison to the ICANN Nominating Committee

Dear RSSAC Caucus members, It is time to begin the selection process for the Outgoing RSSAC Liaison to the 2024 ICANN Nominating Committee (NomCom). The role is a one-year term beginning at the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting to be held during ICANN78 in October 2023. Please refer to this page<https://www.icann.org/nomcom2023> for more information about the Nominating Committee and read the NomCom Delegate Job Description attached. I have also copied below the relevant sections from “RSSAC000v7: Operational Procedures” for your reference. With this notice, a four-week nomination period via this distribution list is now open. Nominations or self-nominations will be accepted and require a second. Nominees must then accept or decline their nomination and may provide a statement with more context for their decision. The nomination period will close at 23:59 UTC on Monday, 24 April 2023. The RSSAC will then consider the slate of candidates at its May teleconference. As you may recall, the RSSAC appointed Hiro Hotta to this role in 2022 (for service in 2023 ICANN NomCom). Hiro’s one-year term will conclude by ICANN78, the Annual General Meeting. Best, Ozan Sahin on behalf of Jeff Osborn, RSSAC Chair and Ken Renard, RSSAC Vice Chair 1.2.7.6 Outgoing RSSAC Liaison to the ICANN Nominating Committee The outgoing RSSAC Liaison to the ICANN Nominating Committee is specified in the ICANN Bylaws. The term for the outgoing RSSAC Liaison to the ICANN Nominating Committee shall be one year. A person may only serve for three consecutive terms unless there are no other candidates for the position. The eligibility status for a previous liaison is reset one year after having stepped down. The RSSAC must elect the outgoing RSSAC Liaison to the ICANN Nominating Committee according to the outgoing RSSAC liaisons election procedure (Section 1.2.7.9) from the members of the RSSAC Caucus. The outgoing RSSAC Liaison to the ICANN Nominating Committee acts as a conduit between the RSSAC and the ICANN Nominating Committee reporting on matters that need to be coordinated or communicated between the two bodies. The role requires discretion, management skills, and considerable time commitment. 1.2.7.9 Outgoing RSSAC Liaison Election Procedure One month prior to each election, nominations will be accepted for the outgoing liaison position and announced on the RSSAC distribution list. During the meeting that includes election of an outgoing liaison position on its announced agenda, additional nominations will be accepted, and all nominees will indicate their intentions: to accept or to decline their nomination. The RSSAC uses ranked choice voting, as outlined in Section 1.4.1 for electing outgoing liaison positions. In the event that only one candidate is standing for election, the RSSAC may elect the new outgoing liaison by acclamation. The RSSAC Chair will forward the name of the outgoing liaison-elect to the reciprocating body. If a vacancy exists in an outgoing liaison role, the RSSAC will elect a new outgoing liaison through this process.

List of Research Papers about the RSS, was Possible new work for the Caucus

Dear RSSAC Caucus, The RSSAC held their monthly meeting Tuesday and discussed the possibility of the Caucus hosting a list of research papers about the RSS. I took an action item to write this mail to the Caucus to continue the discussion and provide some feedback from the RSSAC. Any list that the Caucus maintains will likely be incomplete and can never be authoritative. There will always be papers that we don’t know about and the list will certainly grow over time. So while it’s an interesting idea, we may be biting off more that we can chew. We expect the list to start with a large number of papers (maybe 50-100?) and will grow significantly over time. [I recently helped create a similar list on routing security for the SSAC’s publication SAC121, and that list has a little over 100 entries, I suspect this list will start with a similar amount.] At that point it’s no longer a simple list, but rather a list of lists that must be broken up into categories. The management of this list would certainly require a considerable labor investment. It would be best if the people who want this list are therefore the ones who curate it. We can develop guidelines for curation, but the actual work should be handled by those who want to volunteer for creating and maintaining the list. A good first step would be for a Caucus member to curate a list themselves of the kind of papers they would like to see and share it. Maybe someone reading this already has such a list. Finally, assuming the RSSAC Caucus takes this work on and we develop guidelines for curation, are there any volunteers who are interested in managing this list of papers? Thanks, Andrew
