Greetings again. In a definitely non-exhaustive survey, it appears that F, H, K, and L respond to the EDN0 NSID (RFC 5001) query. 1) Are there others that do so, at least on some of their hosts? 2) Are there rootops who do per-host identification in some other way? 3) Is this an appropriate topic for the RSSAC Caucus? --Paul Hoffman

FWIW I think its relevant. I remember the debate(s) in the older informal RSSAC caucus and it pretty much came down to 'useful but not obligatory' with the usual debate between benefits when things are going wrong, vs risks of take-down one-by-one when the bad people work out where the smaller nodes are. A lot of the discussion back in those days appeared to revolve around finding language to 'recommend' things without appearing to imply anything was mandated or required or had contractual force. I don't know if we're in a world where that kind of thing matters any more for this group but I'd prefer those questions are distinct from the utility question: Is it useful to ask roots to implement a mechanism to identify which node answers a query? I think it is. I appreciate other people may put stronger weight on the risk side, but I think its useful. -G

Hi all, I thought I'd ask here since I remember Duane asking a similar question relating to RSSAC-003... ... does anybody have a complete or partial archive of root zone data that is older than the set available at DNS-OARC? OARC's archive has nothing older than July 2009. I'm particularly interested in zone data that describes the build out of the original root zone NS set to nine servers in mid-1994, the renaming under the ROOT-SERVERS.NET domain and the subsequent assignment of J, K, L and M. I realise this is a bit of a long shot, but the answer's always no if you don't ask :-) [I'm asking the same question on a small handful of lists; apologies if you get multiple copies of this.] Joe

[rssac-caucus] 48 HOUR LAST CALL: DRAFT Final Report on Root zone TTLs

Dear RSSAC caucus, Thank you again for your feedback on the TTL document. The Caucus work working group (along with a few caucus members) met at IETF 93 today and finalized the document. In the attached final document, a few changes are made: 1) recommendations are updated based on the additional feedback and work party discussions. The rationale is documented at the end of section 6.4.4. 2) added text to indicate that this is not an urgent problem to be fixed, and that the issue to be addressed within a reasonable amount of time following an update of the necessary procedures documents and software testing. 3) additional text to indicate that a new RRSIG record covering the DNSKEY RRset appears in the root zone every ten days, except at the end of calendar quarters where the interval may be extended to 12 days. 4) light-editing through the document (e.g. make recommendations in the executive summary consistent with the recommendations section, etc.) 5) updated acknowledgement section. With this, this document is put to the 48 hour last call for comments period. Please provide your comments by close of business Thursday, 23 July 2015. Following the last call, the documents will be copy-edited and sent to RSSAC for formal action. Best, Steve
