New publication date for FY17 plans report on public comments

Dear Community Leaders and Members, Thank you very much for the extensive comments provided on our draft FY17 plans. There are more than 150 comments in the 13 submissions provided, which is a significant increase on the number of comments provided last year. In order to properly evaluate and respond to your comments, and draft and finalize responses, we need to extend the timeline for producing the stff report on public comments. Top 15 projects, and alerts about additional document in public comment proceedings

Dear Community Leaders and Members, One of the questions asked during the recent calls on the comments on the draft FY17 plans was whether we had published the Top 15 Projects, as promised. This question was also asked in one of the comments submitted. We did publish this information but could have communicated the fact better. We have noted this as an area for improvement for FY18 but also want to remind you about the "Follow Updates" feature built into ICANN.ORG. It is available by clicking on the blue button in the top right hand corner of the main page for any public comment proceeding and will notify you of additional documents published, like translations or the Top-15 Projects information, as well as comments submitted in the comments forum, and the report at the end. Recordings of Calls with Community on Public Comments Submitted on the Draft FY17 Operating Plan and Budget Now Available

Dear Community Leaders and Members: ICANN held community calls during which the comments submitted on the Draft FY17 Operating Plan and Budget<https://www.icann.org/public-comments/op-budget-fy17-five-year-2016-03-05-en> were presented by the submitters to ICANN Board and staff. These calls were intended to enhance ICANN's understanding of the comments and so improve the quality of the response. This process was implemented to improve the public comment process, consistent with ATRT2 recommendations (#12.1 and #12.5<https://community.icann.org/download/attachments/49354554/ATRT2%20Executive…>). The calls were public, focused on the organization that submitted comments, and attended by the Board Finance Committee<https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/finance-committee-2014-03-21-en> and other Board members. The staff and Board members attending primarily listened and asked clarifying questions as the calls were not intended for providing responses to public comments except those that needed a simple, factual answer. These conversations are helpful in developing the staff report on public comments, which staff is developing with the Board, and is planned for publication on 30 May 2016. An updated plan is also being prepared and is scheduled to be adopted by the Board in the last week of June.
