Dear All, On behalf of Olivier Crépin-Leblond, Chair of the ALAC, please find attached a Council of Europe report entitled “ICANN’s procedures and policies in the light of human rights, fundamental freedoms and democratic values” authored by Dr Monika Zalnieriute and Thomas Schneider. This draft report was discussed during the ALAC and Regional Leaders Working Session on Sunday, 12 October. There will also be an open community discussion on A human rights perspective on ICANN’s policies and procedures on Wednesday, 15 October 2014,between 13.15-14.45,in the Encino Room in the ICANN 51 venue. Please find a flyer of this event attached with the details as this session is not on the public schedule. Given the interest in this report, there will be an At-Large Capacity Building Webinar on this topic scheduled for early November. Hello everyone, So far we have heard back from 12 ALS representatives on this proposal, none opposed. If there is no opposition to this proposal within the next 24 hours, we will take it as a consensus of NARALO that the CCC be accepted as an ALS, and to submit that recommendation to ALAC for final approval. Dear Naralo Members The Consumers Council of Canada, based in Toronto, Canada is seeking to become an ALS. They are going through a due diligence process and I want to see approval as Acting Secretariat of other members in NARALO about their application and whether we should support their interest in becoming an ALS in Naralo. I am seeking any comments you have on this group and your thoughts on them wanting to become an ALS. To meet our due date of the end of this month, please send me your responses by December 24, 2014 Glenn McKnight is the person who had originally reached out them and encouraged them to apply, According to Glenn, They have been doing some interesting research funded by CIRA http://www.cira.ca/about-cira/community-investment-program/ Consumers Council of Canada develops practical guidelines for the display of findable, usable and relevant online agreements (i.e., End User License Agreement, Terms of Use/Service, Privacy Policy) to improve understanding of increasingly important terms and conditions and privacy considerations relevant to most Canadians, expanding the trust required for a healthy, sustainable Internet environment. An investigation by Icann revealed that the attackers got at a system called the Centralised Zone Data System (CZDS) that lists who looks after what is known as generic top-level domains. This includes the widely used .com, .info, .net and .org domains as well as a host of other more recently established domains. Icann said it was not possible to alter any details of who administers these domains from its CZDS system. Passwords were stored in a hard to crack format, said Icann, and added it had deactivated passwords so those with legitimate access to CZDS would have to generate a new one.
