NARALO alternate voter for the At-Large selection to the ICANN Board

Hello all, I appreciate the support from those of you who responded to my interest in doing this. To answer the yet-unasked question of what I would do if picked: I haven't made up my mind yet who I would vote for. I have worked closely with both Alan and Leon and believe them BOTH to be highly skilled, committed and competent people who have served At-Large well. Based on what I know to date, either would be a useful and productive member of the ICANN Board. I really wish both could be there. If chosen I would take it upon myself to study all of the submissions and campaign material at hand, and will have questions ready for the candidates if my concerns are not covered in that material. I will state upfront that the focus of my research and questioning (and eventually my choice) will be on strength of DNS privacy and gTLD expansion policies, and how each candidate approaches the issue of "global public trust in ICANN" -- this is IMO the most critical (At-Large-focused) issue for the future Board. That's the approach I would take. Thank you. - Evan

Pending Vote

HI Folks Last week we asked for nominations or self nominations for a substitute for Alan's vote in the pending Board seat election( Alan is one of the two final candidates) We have heard from the community and Evan and Eduardo expressed interest in stepping up and we need to have an appropriate motion and Big Pulse vote In advance to this call for a vote. we are required by our existing Rules of procedures to have this person vote according to their personal beliefs. We are asking each candidate for a statement of how they plan to decide on who to vote prior to asking the NARALO membership to vote in Big Pulse. This gives the membership an opportunity to get insights into the individuals and provide a more balanced and reflective voting process. We are confident that both gentlemen and very experienced NARALO members they will provide a cogent statement. We are waiting for Ariel to provide the timelines for the actual vote. This situation only impacts NARALO and LACRALO since we are the only two RALO's that need to do this extra step some currently only two people are standing for the Board election. (Unless RALO petitions will change this) This doesn't alter our request at this time As to the actual Board candidates we will organizing a Meet the Candidate on our NARALO call plus I am sure staff will be organizing a purpose call. Hi Seth, This is an election for the At-Large appointment to the ICANN Board of Directors. There are 20 voters -- the 15 ALAC members, and the five RALO chairs (supposedly representing the will of their respective regions). Alan is an ALAC member representing NARALO -- but he is a candidate, so he cannot also be a voter. This call is for people prepared to serve as a voter in Alan's place. As someone who was involved in designing the Board selection process and was once a candidate, I would be interested in this role.
