request for two rooms/events in Dakar

Seth, Heidi... The NA-RALO wants to request, if possible, two rooms for two separate events at Dakar. One room is needed for a discussion to present the "findings of the NA-RALO's Task Force on Puerto Rico's ccTLD Controversy," or something to that effect. One hour, room for 20 people, audiovisual, Spanish translation if possible, French too if we can have it. Presenters tentatively will be Eduardo Diaz if he wants to, as well as Garth Bruen, and I'll moderate. Possible remote dial-in. We will also need space on the event calendar to promote the event, as I would guess there will be interested participants. A second room is needed, and added to the event calendar, for an open discussion to develop NA-RALO's North American Internet users' survey on prioritizing policy for NA-RALO and ICANN. One hour, audiovisual, French and Spanish if possible, room for 20 people. We also need schedule space for this as there will no doubt be some strong opinions on survey content. Note that the working group is evolving a course of action that would involve an ALS survey, as well as a general North American users' survey. I realize this is probably late notice, but both events will be worthwhile and need stakeholder interest. If necessary, we could also append both these sessions to scheduled at-large activities, assuming that's OK with the ALAC ex-com, but would still need promotion that they are happening. Please let me know what the possibilities are, and at that point I can provide further details on content of the sessions, etc. Please note we don't want to be exiled to some dusty corner of the conference center on Thursday at 7 p.m., or jammed into the interim slot between the last session on Wednesday, and the Gala, when everyone's getting dressed/hammered, or at 6 a.m. on Friday. you know, it would be hard to make this stuff up...I especially like the photo with the caption, "con funcionarios de la Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers" describing Vint and Paul Twomey, to be especially humorous -- though I don't think "functionarios" has the same slightly negative connotation in Spanish as "functionaries" does in English. I believe this picture was taken during the 2007 ICANN meeting in Puerto Rico when Dr. Moreno signed the accountability framework with ICANN. What an irony! That can be the basis of possibly getting some press, because we are going to need that, or at least the possibility of it, to get that community to take notice and get ICANN/IANA to take the matter seriously. * Make a determination prior to Dakar of what the appropriate channels are to raise concerns about this, so that we can send some communication up those channels prior to Dakar. Seems to me like those are some concrete first steps to get things started. Feel free to add or offer other ideas. I think we have an opportunity here since Garth will be joining us in Dakar. To All: Please disregard an email indicating that I am receiving emails in a hotmail account from now on . That was hotmail doing one of their things when i was trying to backup my emails into hotmail. I had to close the account in HOTMAIL just to stop what they were doing. Lessons learned: if you ever use HOTMAIL to backup your email data from GMAIL be aware that HOTMAIL will send a message to all your contacts, including those emails that you reply to and that they are not in your contact list, indicating that your email address has changed to their system. The ICANN Policy Staff will provide a briefing on Thursday 13 October at 12.00 UTC and Thursday 13 October at 19.00 UTC, summarizing policy issues across the different ICANN Supporting Organizations, namely the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO), Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) and Address Supporting Organization (ASO). Amongst other topics, updates will be provided on: * Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy Issue Report (GNSO) * Post-Expiration Domain Name Recovery (GNSO) * Recent WHOIS work * Study Group on Use of Names for Countries and Territories (ccNSO) * Framework of Interpretation Working Group for the delegation and re delegation of ccTLDs (ccNSO) * Joint DNS Security and Stability Analysis Working Group The two sessions are duplicates, scheduled to accommodate different time zones. Each session, scheduled to run for 90 minutes, will be conducted in English only. The meeting will be run in Adobe Connect with a slide presentation along with a dial-in conference bridge for audio. Though I agree in principle with Avri, I am also wondering if we should, indeed, sign this since it's there, and pursue other efforts for community involvement via other channels as well. I'm going to sign it because I was asked to do so in conjunction with something I wrote. Having a quiet word with Sebastien might also help the cause.
