Dear All, Unfortunately it has not been possible to identify a time this week to set up a call with the participation of Carlos to allow him to share his perspectives on which criteria are of key importance when considering the candidates for the GNSO Liaison to the GAC position. Following consultation with the chair, we have decided to move ahead and launch the survey for your input: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GACLiaison. Hopefully Carlos can weigh in on the list to help inform your response and/or share his perspectives when reviewing the survey results. We would like to request you to complete the survey by Wednesday 4 October at the latest. Welcome and Agenda Review - Update on ATRT3 selection – On 20 September, the GNSO Council nominated candidates recommended by the SSC (see https://community.icann.org/display/gnsocouncilmeetings/Motions+20+Septembe…) 2. SOI Updates - No updates 3. GAC Liaison Selection - Three applications were submitted with endorsement – see https://community.icann.org/x/sQ0hB. SSC members can view application materials on the closed wiki workspace: https://community.icann.org/x/ziwhB - Two applications were individually submitted without ensorsement, and are therefore ineligible. - In the previous two processes, an evaluation sheet was used to rank candidates. A version of this document could be used by SSC members if they find it helpful. - Document deadline for this selection process is 16 October. If the SSC needs additional time to make a selection, a placeholder motion can be submitted on the 16th. - Members expressed general support for leveraging the template used in the previous selection processes. - Members would also be interested to receive feedback from Carlos Raul Gutierrez on the poll and the process more generally. - The SSC will meet next week and make sure to convene at a time that is convenient for Carlos. - The following week, the SSC will meet to discuss candidates and poll results. 4. Selection of ATRT3 candidates

Dear SSC members, We had a robust discussion today on the ATRT3 candidates and a lot of good perspectives were raised in the conversation. At the end of the call, we appeared to converge on a proposal to put forward the top seven candidates ranked in the poll (see https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-87RXWCMK8/) with the top three as primary candidates with a guaranteed seat on the ATRT3 following GNSO Council endorsement: *Primary candidates (in order of preference)* Brian Cute (RySG) Wolfgang Kleinwächter (NCSG) Stéphane Van Gelder (RySG) *Additional candidates (in order of preference)* Tatiana Tropina (NCSG) Michael Karanicolas (NCSG) Adetola Sogbesan (BC) Erica Varlese (RySG) The group agreed to express to the GNSO Council concerns about the general lack of diversity (gender, geographic) in the pool of candidates for review teams and agreed to request the GNSO Council to encourage SG/C to promote calls for volunteers and make efforts to promote sufficient diversity in the pool of applicants for future application processes. Staff will be circulating a draft motion that is intended to serve as a placeholder until the SSC submits its recommendations so that these can potentially be considered during the upcoming Council meeting on 20 September for which the document deadline is 10 September. *If you do not agree with this proposal, please submit objections no later than 11 September COB. Note that a placeholder call is in the process of being scheduled for next week so that further discussion can take place if objections are received. * Best regards, SSC Leadership team

SSC - GAC Liaison

As it appears that I have been nominated as a candidate for the GAC liaison position, I hereby have to recuse myself from any SSC deliberation of the issue. As the archive of this mailing list is publicly accessible, I guess we don't have to remove me from the list for the duration of the deliberation, but if we have conference calls / meetings discussing both the GAC liaison selection and other matters, I I am hoping we can arrange the agendas with the GAC liaison selection is handled at the end so that I can leave the call or meeting at the appropriate time. I will of course not attend any calls or meetings purely related to GAC liaison selection. Any other things I've forgotten to take into account? Julf

ACTION ITEM: As agreed by members, leadership team will send a follow up email with proposed ranking of ATRT3 candidates for further discussion by email. NOTES: 1. Agenda review and SOI updates - Julf has joined as an individual member to NCUC - Renata is now the mentor of the Global Indigenous Program - ALAC program 2. Discussion of ATRT3 candidates (see https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-87RXWCMK8/[surveymonkey.com] - Q3: Sufficient knowledge and experience (Y/N) - Q4: Necessary skills, expertise, and attributes (Y/N) - Q5: Rank by skills and experience - Q6: Rank by desired attributes - SSC can select three primary candidates and up to seven candidates in total, but it is not required to recommend seven. - Several members supported sending seven candidates. - Different opinions expressed about the relative importance of qualifications and diversity considerations. - Question: can we recommend 4 primary candidates? Answer: The RDS-RT was a special case. It would be very difficult for the GNSO to get a fourth through as a primary candidate. It it advisable to focus on the top three and considerations the SSC wants to focus on for these top three. - General agreement to pick the top 7, and then rank within that 7. - From the SSC Charter: The SSC shall strive as far as possible to achieve balance, representativeness, diversity and sufficient expertise appropriate for the applicable selection process. In order to achieve balance and diversity on the Review Teams, the SSC is strongly encouraged to employ a system of rotation to Review Team selections. Any Stakeholder Group which nominated candidates(s) for a Review Team but did not have a candidate selected for that Review Team shall be preferred as a qualified applicant from their Stakeholder Group for one of the three guaranteed slots for the next GNSO Review Team appointment processes. - From previously selection processes, RySG is the least represented (0 candidates). Other groups have 1-2 candidates selected. - Proposal: confirm by email that the group follows the rankings per the poll. General support expressed for this proposal. - Consider expressing concern about diversity and recommend measures to encourage gender diversity, but do not ask for guaranteed fourth seat. Note that of nine applicants, only three were female. - Deadline for the motion is 10 September. We may need to submit a placeholder motion. 3. AOB - GAC Liaison selection -- Deadline for application submission is 8 September -- No applications submitted so far -- Announcements and reminders were sent through SG/C leadership. - All applications will be submitted through SG/Cs, SG/Cs can put forward anyone they want to support. There is no requirement for afiliation in the call for volunteers. -- upcoming Council deadlines and next SSC meeting - Upcoming call -Tentatively schedule meetings for next week and the following week in case additional discussion is needed for ATRT3 before the discussion begins on the GAC Liaison selection. Include Standard Process document in the agenda for the next call.
