Regional Advise on the Foundation for Building Sustainable Communities

Dear all, The Staff asked for regional advise from the North American RALO on the ALS application from the Foundation for Building Sustainable Communities (FBSC). It was decided during the monthly NARALO teleconference on August 11th that the regional advise would be to approve the application if no dissent was sent to the list within seven days after conclusion of the meeting. Not having seen any negative comments on the NA-discuss list until August 18th, it is the Staff¹s understanding that the region intends the approval of the application. ICANN is listed under the heading "With the participation of" but not as an organizer or sponsor. This seems to go along with the note that Danny attached. I would presume (but have never looked into) that ICANN people speak at lots of closed meetings. Now whether ICANN should put resources into such events is a management decision based on perceived benefits (or risks of not having ICANN speakers and thus ceding the floor to perhaps less informed people) and clearly a subject that we can agree or disagree on. Related to this topic: We (the ALAC) needs to act on and ratify the comments on the RAA. Those were supposed to be finalized and to Tim Cole by the end of August. We can't wait now until our monthly ALAC call in October. NARALO Conference call Sept 22

Due to the fact that there were many agenda items that were not sufficiently dealt with on today's call, we have tentatively scheduled another NARALO call to take place in two weeks -- Monday September 22 -- at the same time as usual (3pm eastern).
