Introduction of Alperen (Alp) Eken, At-Large Policy Coordinator - Temporary Assignment

Dear All, I am very pleased to be able to announce that Alperen (Alp) Eken, At-Large Policy Coordinator, will be supporting the work of the At-Large community in their efforts to increase the effective engagement of At-Large Structures and Individuals on a part time, temporary basis. Alp previously worked at ICANN as a Compliance Analyst and at QNB Finansbank as a Process Engineer. In addition to his work, Alp is one of the Co-Founders and previous Chairperson of the Co-Opinion Network which is a non-profit, policy-oriented international youth network. He chaired and organized numerous summits, workshops and roundtables in Turkey, Lebanon, Italy, Tunisia and Brussels aiming to render the contemporary world a youth-led and socially inclusive one. Alp is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington D.C., concentrating on Conflict Management and International Economics. Previously, he studied International Relations and Politics at Bogazici University, Istanbul. Alp speaks English, Turkish and German. Alp will be in Montreal for ATLAS III. The selected candidate will serve a 3-year term starting at the end of ICANN69 (2020 Annual General Meeting - AGM). Background Seat number 15 of the ICANN Board of Directors is dedicated to a member selected by the At-Large community. This seat is currently occupied by León Sánchez, who assumed the position at the end of ICANN60 (2017 AGM). His 3-year term will be completed at the closing of ICANN69 (2020 AGM), and he will be eligible for re-appointment. Pursuant to Section 19 of the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) Rules of Procedure<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/Rules+of+Procedure?preview=/226…> (RoP), the At-Large community began the selection process for the next Board Director in September 2019, with the appointment of the Chairs and Members of the BCEC and the Board Member Selection Process Committee (BMSPC). The BCEC is responsible for outlining candidate requirements and expectations, calling for, identifying, and evaluating applications, and compiling the initial slate of candidates. The BMSPC oversees the entire selection process, including the development of the selection timeline and the election process. Both groups have regionally balanced membership and operate in accordance with a strict code of conduct and confidentiality where applicable. In accordance with the ALAC Rules of Procedure (RoP), Regional At-Large Organizations (RALOs) may petition to have a candidate added to the slate. The BCEC is expected to finalize its selection by the end of 2019. Following the publication of the BCEC slate, unsuccessful applicants may opt to have their candidacy considered by the five RALOs. The overall selection process will conclude by Wednesday, 22 April 2020. The successful applicant will be announced on or before that date. Hi all. Now in its fourth episode, I've started a podcast: a conversation with a longtime friend (and author of "Linux for Dummies") Marcel Gagne. https://tic-tek-toe.com/ It's intended to be a light but (I'm told) informative dialogue roughly about open source topics that meanders a lot. Four episodes done. Very early days. rough production, improving each episode. Haven't talked about ICANN -- yet ;-). But you can count it'll be coming.
