Chair's Draft of MOU (Action Item)

Dear Colleagues, After reviewing the wiki updates over the last few weeks (Thanks, Darlene!) and the comments both on the list and on our two conference calls, I've tried to distill the comments into the attached "Chair's Draft." The document is in PDF format, converted from a Word document, and has line numbers next to all of the text. I personally find it helpful to have final discussions around words in documents when we can reference page and line numbers from a fixed common draft. I would ask you each to review the draft and, when you have additions, deletions or revisions, reference the language you're addressing by its page and line number. For example, "Can we change the word 'shall' on Page 2, line 24 to 'will'...." Nick, can you arrange to have copies of this printed for everyone who will be in San Juan? Many thanks everyone. Bret

Luc has been involved in the NARALO formation efforts since the beginning, and he knows ICANN and its processes very well. Luc, I hope you are willing to fill this role this week, and I would ask everyone to give Luc the same support you've given me over the past two months. Hi, As an ICANN-meeting virgin I have some questions: 1) What's the dress convention? That is, I expect that many meetings will be informal (given the temps in June I expect they will NEED to be casual), but how much -- if any -- of the conference is typically suit-and-tie formal? 2) Have Jacob or Nick planned any kind of orientation for newcomers? Tossing us unprepared into a den of bureaucracy and power struggles does not serve our constituencies -- or the RALO process. Some informal sessions on "ICANN Culture" would be extremely helpful, as I imagine that only a shred of the nuances and realities can be expressed well in (publicly archived :-) ) email. This would be a great opportunity for the veterans of this list to help us newcomers understand why they're so damned cynical. :-) As it is we'll be missing the generic "orientation round table" because that conflicts with the all-day NARALO meeting on the 24th. Please can we have this? If room availability is a problem, let's take it to a restaurant or something. This element of the meeting is as important to me as many of the other parts. Status of Vote | Call for Additional Votes

Dear Colleagues, As you may know, our Operating Principles require an affirmative vote of 70% of the accredited ALSs from North America to become operational. Prior to today's announcement, we were just one vote short of the 70% requirement. Since the vote is still open -- and will continue to be open until we have either 70% approval or 30% rejection -- I believe we should look for 70% of the new total of ALSs. I understand from Nick that the new organizations have been following the discussions. I hope they will be in a position to vote as soon as possible. For those of you who abstained because you did not have time to review the documents, please take the time today, this weekend, or as soon as you are able, to review the documents again. We would like you to consider changing your abstention into either an express approval or disapproval of the Operating Procedures and Code of Conduct. (Links in footer below). If you haven't yet voted, all you need to do to vote is send a message to the "official" North American list at na-als(a)atlarge-lists.icann.org identifying yourself, your organization, and saying "yes," "no," or "abstain" with regard to the (1) Operating Procedures, and (2) Code of Conduct. brief notes on flight to and arrival at the NA At large hotel in San Juan - Check in 4:15 am - Cleared US Customs (@ toronto airport 5:12), couldn't do it earlier as they didn't open until 5am - Departure Toronto, 6:30 AM on time. - Arrival Charlotte - , 10 min early. Arrival section C, it is about a 15-20 min to area D , where San Juan Flights depart - charlotte is a nice airport. - Late departure from Charlotte due to mechanical issues. Arrived San Juan about 45 late. - Arrival San Juan, uneventful. - Evan , once you haev your bags, exit, and head to one of the organge "ground transportation stands". You will be issued a receipt for the amount, which in my case as 18USD - make sure to mention you are going to the MArriott Miramar on POnce de Leon Avenue. confirmed that wireless is free. i'm staying in Room 503.
