Dear All, Please see below the call for nominations for members of the 2016 ALAC Leadership Team (ALT) sent on behalf of Alan Greenberg, Chair of the ALAC. =========================================== ALAC LEADERSHIP TEAM Now that it is confirmed that the ALAC Chair, Alan Greenberg, will continue for another term, he has requested that a call for nominations be issued for the other four members of the ALAC Leadership team (ALT) from the four remaining regions: - Africa - Asia, Australasia and Pacific Islands - Europe - Latin America and Caribbean Islands The ALAC Rules of Procedure call for up to two Vice-Chairs, at the discretion of the incoming ALAC Chair, and Alan has indicated that he would prefer two Vice-Chairs as was the case during the past year. Nominations are now open for individuals to serve as the two Vice-Chairs of the ALAC and the two non-titled ALT positions. Nominations may be made by any current ALAC Member. Nominees need not be an ALAC Member at the time of the nominations, but must have an expectation of being an ALAC Member after the completion of the upcoming Dublin ICANN Meeting. Requirements for ALT members can be found in Section 6 of the ALAC Rules of Procedure (http://tinyurl.com/ALAC-RoP-2013-04) Nominations will close on Saturday, 17 October 2015 at 23:59 UTC. Nominations need not be seconded, but it is an ALAC tradition that others may second the nomination as a show of agreement with the nomination. Nominations other than self-nominations must be accepted within seven days after the close of nominations. Failing that, an secret vote of the ALAC will decide the winner. If the resultant ALT includes two members nominated to be Vice-Chairs, those two will serve in those positions. If there are less than two or more than two nominated as Vice-Chairs, the ALAC Chair will decide who will occupy the Vice-Chair positions. ALAC Chair

According to the ALAC Rules of Procedure, my first term as ALAC Chair which expires at the end of the Dublin meeting is renewable if I am still an ALAC Member and still am willing to continue in the position. As I will be starting a term as a NARALO-selected ALAC Member, I hereby announce that I am willing to continue in this role for another year. I ask that ALAC staff open nominations for candidates for the rest of the ALAC Leadership Team. Alan ==================================== ALAC RoP 8.2 If the Chair is still a member of the ALAC in the year following his or her selection, is willing to continue in that role and subject to the eligibility rules in Paragraph 5, the Chair's term is deemed to be automatically renewed for a second year without any explicit action of the ALAC.

This webpage will be the source of all current information related to any requests for termination of a gTLD Registry Agreement. Under the gTLD Registry Agreement, a Registry Operator or ICANN may terminate pursuant to certain requirements. In the event of termination by either party and after consultation with Registry Operator, ICANN shall determine whether or not to transition operation of the Registry to a sucessor registry operator in conformance with the Registry Transition Process<https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/transition-processes-2013-04-22-en>. All relevant documentation, including termination notices from Registry Opertors or ICANN, termination determinations by ICANN, and comments from the community regarding terminations will will be published on this webpage for community visibility. ICANN has published a request from the Doosan Corporation to terminate its .DOOSAN Registry Agreement, and ICANN's preliminary determination to not transition operations of the Registry to a successor Registry Operator. [ICANN]<https://www.icann.org/> News Alert https://www.icann.org/news/announcement-2015-10-08-en ________________________________ Call for Participation: Workshop on Internationalized Domains Names (IDNs) in Africa 8 October 2015 The Internet Corporation For Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will be hosting a workshop on Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) from 26-27 November 2015 in Point- Noire, Congo, prior to the AFRINIC-23 meeting. Building on ICANN's Africa Strategy, which was launched three years ago, and with the support of ICANN's IDN program, this new workshop will focus on IDNs in the context of African languages and scripts. It will introduce the IDN Program at ICANN and the work being done by the script based Generation Panels. The objective of this workshop is to galvanize the African community's support and encourage them to participate in the necessary script-based work that is already underway. By contributing to this ongoing effort, participants will help promote IDNs in indigenous African scripts (e.g. Ethiopic) and the use of Latin script for African languages. Participants are expected to actively contribute to the discussions during the workshop, and are expected to volunteer for script-based panels - Latin or other scripts - that may be set up to support African scripts. Language experts, ccTLD managers, computer specialists and other community members interested in lDNs are invited to attend. Candidates should indicate if they are able to fund their participation. The launch of the L-Root server node is a joint operation between ICANN and Vocus Communications which supplied the equipment necessary for the installation of the new L-Root node. Vocus also provided the colocation in their datacenter and the bandwidth needed for the node's operation. "We are delighted to support the installation of the L-root server, boosting stability and security in the network. Last year saw a massive 121 per cent increase in infrastructure based DDoS attacks, which means security is more important than ever. Creating greater redundancy in the DNS is great news for Australian businesses which increasingly require the reliability of a fast and secure network," said Vocus Chief Technology Officer, Luke Mackinnon. "I am very pleased with our partnership with Vocus. We have a very close working relationship with Australia's multi-stakeholder Internet Governance community and I am happy to facilitate the deployment of another root server instance into Australia," said Savé Vocea, ICANN's Global Stakeholder Engagement Vice President for Pacific Islands. This cooperation signifies an effort between ICANN and Vocus to enhance the security, stability and resiliency of the DNS for Australian Internet users and reduce the response time experienced when making some DNS queries. "ICANN is pleased to augment the number of L-Root instances in Australia. We appreciate the tremendous effort from Vocus in hosting the L-Root. Their work speaks volumes to their commitment to both the Domain Name System and the stability and resiliency of the global Internet," said Terry Manderson, Director of DNS Engineering at ICANN. There are 13 "root" DNS servers, identified by the letters A through M - the "L" root server operated by ICANN being one. Computers typically communicate with each other using numeric addresses, while humans find it easier to use and remember names (for instance, users typically remember the domain name "ICANN.ORG" more easily than the Internet Protocol address, 2620:0:2d0:200::7). The DNS translates domain names into addresses and the root servers provide the pointers to the servers for top-level domains (the last part of domain names, for example, "ORG" in "ICANN.ORG"). Spreading the service that provides these pointers out geographically by duplicating the root servers leads to a more resilient, dispersed system that reduces the risk of users being taken offline by a problem or attack and reduces the time it takes to look up names on the Internet. The Vocus hosted L-Root instance is the sixth root server instance in Australia. Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced today that it has moved its APAC hub to a new office, located in the South Beach Tower in the Esplanade area. The move is in line with ICANN's expanded presence in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region. At the official opening ceremony today, ICANN's Chief Operating Officer Susanna Wong Bennett said, "Expanding our APAC Hub is key to ICANN's strategic focus and commitment to globalization. This positions ICANN for long-term stability as we continue our work of maintaining a secure, stable and interoperable Internet and cements the vision of having three global hubs to serve the global community." The ICANN APAC Hub was established in Singapore in August 2013 to better serve the stakeholders in this region and recently celebrated its second anniversary. "We knew from the start that the APAC Hub had to play catch-up with the fast-evolving Internet user demographic in the region.
