Call for Nominations - ALAC Leadership Team 2016-2017

Dear All, Now that it is confirmed that the ALAC Chair, Alan Greenberg, will continue for another term and it is known which if any ALAC Members will be occupying roles of AC/SO Liaison, Alan has requested that a call for nominations be issued for the other four members of the ALAC Leadership team (ALT) from the four remaining regions: - Africa - Asia, Australasia and Pacific Islands - Europe - Latin America and Caribbean Islands The terms of the 2016-2017 ALT will begin at the 2016 AGM and end at the 2017 AGM. This selection is carried out in accordance with the ALAC Rules of Procedure Section 17.3 (RoPs - http://tinyurl.com/ALAC-RoP-2016-09[tinyurl.com]<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__tinyurl.com_ALAC-2DRoP-…>). The RoPs call for up to two Vice-Chairs, at the discretion of the incoming ALAC Chair. Alan has indicated that he would prefer two Vice-Chairs as was the case during the past year. Regional diversity is ensured by the RoPs, but gender diversity would be an asset. Nominations are now open for individuals to serve as the two Vice-Chairs of the ALAC and the two non-titled ALT positions. Nominations need not specify which ALT position is sought. Nominations may be made by any current ALAC Member. Nominees need not be an ALAC Member at the time of the nominations, but must have an expectation of being an ALAC Member after the completion of the upcoming Hyderabad ICANN Meeting. Requirements for ALT members can be found in Section 6 of the ALAC RoPs. In short, ALT members are expected to attend all ALAC meetings, typically two ALT meetings per month, and be very responsive and thoughtful to e-mail requests and discussions. By mutual agreement, ALT members may take on additional roles, and Vice-Chairs are expected to take on proportionally larger responsibilities. All ALT activities are carried on solely in English. Nominations will close on Friday, 21 October, 2016 at 23:59 UTC. Nominations need not be seconded. Nominations, other than self-nominations, must be accepted within seven days after the close of nominations. Acceptance should be sent to the alac(a)atlarge-lists.icann.org<mailto:alac@atlarge-lists.icann.org>. Staff will forward all acceptances to alac-announce(a)atlarge-lists.icann.org<mailto:alac-announce@atlarge-lists.icann.org>. Following the close of the nominations period and the acceptance or rejection of all nominations, candidates from regions where the position is not contested will be declared to have won by acclamation. If there are multiple candidates from any region, the candidates, in conjunction with the ALAC, will be given the opportunity to resolve the situation. Failing that, a secret vote of the ALAC will decide the winner. If the resultant ALT includes two members nominated to be Vice-Chairs, those two will serve in those positions. If there are less than two or more than two nominated as Vice-Chairs, the ALAC Chair will decide who will occupy the Vice-Chair positions. Dear All, On behalf of Alan Greenberg, Chair of the ALAC, we would like to invite you to the At-Large Briefing call on DNSSEC key roll-over being planned by ICANN. This At-Large Briefing Session will feature Matt Larson, Vice President of Research for the CTO office at ICANN, who will give a presentation and answer questions on the upcoming DNSSEC root key-signing key (KSK) rollover being planned by ICANN. The root KSK is the most important cryptographic key in the DNS security extensions, or DNSSEC. DNSSEC protects end users from receiving spoofed data and prevents attacks such as being misdirected to a malicious web site. This cryptographic key will be changed, or rolled over, in late 2017. While the actual change isn't happening until next year, an important aspect of the project is getting the word out to those who need to know about the change and take action, such as network administrators and software developers.
