NEW PUBLIC CONSULTATION: Draft 2010-2013 Strategic Plan

Dear All, On December 1st ICANN opened a public comment period opened on the Draft 2010-2013 Strategic Plan. It will remain open until January 21st 2010. Please find the original text of the announcement attached below: ****** As the next element of consultation on the Strategic Plan, ICANN invites comments from the community on a first draft of the plan based on material presented to the community at the Seoul meeting. In particular, we are seeking the views of the community on the following issues: 1. What should be the three to five year high level strategic objectives for each of the four areas of work? 2. What would be the specific metrics for each of the four areas of work? The comment period will close on 21 January 2010. The draft plan will be revised based on the comments received and the responses to the community survey (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=j4N7UAoVMQ_2bixC2FwvP6oQ_3d_3d) posted earlier this month. A final version of the Strategic Plan will be submitted to the Board for approval at their February meeting. Email forwarded from Craig Schwartz, Chie gTLD Registry Liaison of ICANN *********************** Dear Community Members, As part of ICANN’s work on the Applicant Guidebook for new gTLDs and the Board’s direction to resolve the potential for malicious conduct over-arching issue, ICANN Staff is soliciting knowledgeable volunteers to serve on two temporary, expert advisory groups to study and develop proposed solutions for: 1. Enhancing access to zone file information; and 2. Establishing a high security TLD verification program. Attached are briefing papers on these topics that will be used for each group’s kick-off call that is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, 8 December (attached in both Word and PDF format). The call time, dial-in information and any associated materials will be provided next week. Additional information about these groups and their activities will be posted via a link on ICANN’s new gTLD webpage (<http://icann.org/en/topics/new-gtlds/related-en.htm>). Recordings or minutes from the groups' conference calls will be publicly archived, and their outputs will be publicly posted and considered as part of ongoing Applicant Guidebook work. ICANN Staff invites the participation of experts from GNSO Stakeholder Groups, constituencies, advisory committees, and other interested parties. We look forward to your participation in this work. Deadline for public consultation on New gTLD Applicant Guidebook v3

Dear Chairs of the gTLD working group and the At-Large Names Issues Taskforce, We would like to inform you that the deadline for the public consultation on the Version 3 of New gTLD Applicant Guidebook is 12 December 2009. The deadline was originally set to 22 November 2009 but since the non-English versions of the DAG 3 were not available before 28 October we informed the person in charge for this consultation that the deadline needs to be extended to allow non-English speakers equal time to respond. You can find a detailed overview of the new gTLD program under: http://www.icann.org/en/topics/new-gtld-program.htm. The full At-Large Policy Advice Schedule is available under: http://www.atlarge.icann.org/policycalendar Explanation/Background: The Draft Applicant Guidebook, V3 is available for review and comment at http://www.icann.org/en/topics/new-gtlds/comments-3-en.htm. The Guidebook has been changed significantly with regards to version 2. In all, there are over 50 areas of change, clearly indicated in the “redline” version of the Guidebook. All materials are in draft form for public comment and review.
