Ireland Hosts Its First Internet Governance Forum
in Dublin
[Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Ireland][nj88a9rab.cc.rs6.net]<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/nj88a9rab.cc.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001XMWGBJU…>
By Adam Peake, Sr. Manager, Civil Society Engagement
The Internet Governance Forum Ireland had its first event in Dublin on 22 May, 2025. [nj88a9rab.cc.rs6.net]<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/nj88a9rab.cc.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001XMWGBJU…>
As of April 2025, there were more than 176 National and Regional IGF initiatives (NRIs) around the world. One of the most recent additions is Ireland.
While a latecomer to the NRI collective, Ireland’s inaugural IGF had an impressive line-up of speakers, headed by Minister Patrick O'Donovan, and panel discussions on regulating online spaces, geopolitics, diversity and inclusion, and – the hot topic of many IGFs this year – ethical Artificial Intelligence. Panelists were a mix of Irish and European experts, favoring local points of view.
The event organizing team was led by the .ie Country Code Top Level Domain operator and the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. ICANN is pleased to be a supporter of IGF Ireland.
MEET THE EMEA COMMUNITY
Regina Filipová Fuchsová, PhD
Czech Republic
[Regina Filipová Fuchsová]
Regina Filipová Fuchsová is the industry relations manager at EURid, the registry operator for the .eu top-level domain. With academic training in economics and law, she has worked in Internet governance and domain name policy since 2007. In recent years, Fuchsová’s role has brought her into closer collaboration with ICANN, particularly through the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO).
Fuchsová will continue her work as vice-chair of the ccNSO Universal Acceptance Committee at ICANN83. She is particularly focused on identifying the enablers and barriers to Universal Acceptance (UA) for ccTLDs and strengthening cooperation with local governments to support UA adoption. She’s also passionate about IDNs, youth engagement, and broadening participation in Internet governance processes.
Beyond ICANN, Fuchsová is an active contributor to EuroDIG, Internet Governance Forum, and Internet Society initiatives. She recently co-organized a multistakeholder event in Prague on Internet governance and disinformation challenges.
Her message to the ICANN community: collaboration across stakeholder groups is essential to ensuring that the Internet remains inclusive, secure, and accessible for future generations.
MEET THE ICANN83 FELLOWS

At ICANN he is keenly interested in Internet governance and the unique challenges of managing the Domain Name System that underpins the Internet.

ICANN COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT
Jorge Cancio
Participant, Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC)
[Jorge Cancio]
"We may say that Switzerland’s political system is multistakeholder by design, as our citizenship normally has the final say on all political decisions, be they local, regional, or federal. Hence, engaging with all actors and stakeholders is a feature of our system.
We strive to implement this in digital governance matters, inter alia, through the Swiss IGF as well as in the Plateforme Tripartite, our national information hub and multistakeholder platform for exchanging information on topics related to Internet and digital governance and artificial intelligence AI."
Ashwin Sasongko
Participant, Governmental Advisory Committee (GAC)
[Ashwin Sasongko]
"Because many countries use ICANN internet services, and also follow the WSIS targets related to Internet access, then it is important for the government to engage with ICANN policy development.
In addition, the Internet is used and also operated locally by various people, communities, companies, central and local governments etc, then it is important for the government to take care of those various stakeholders interests."
