Dear Cheryl, Congratulations!!!![?][?][?][?] on making Chair Elect for NomCom! Being a babe in the system, I can only say that you are the woman most admired by me. In my "infancy" (in the system), I have never seen a more committed. dedicated person in ICANN and even beyond. For a volunteer to commit and consistently stay up for 1am to 5am morning calls, contribute substantively without breaking a sweat, lead, guide and mentor others and manage their daily affairs is simply an extraordinary human being. You are and remain an inspiration and we will continue to rely on your counsel and wisdom in days to come. In Prague, whilst we were celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the ALAC, and I was touched by a story you shared about how the ALAC at one stage was relegated to meet in someone's store room, and today the ALAC has and continues to command the respect because of all the hard work that you and others with you seeded into the ALAC to enable the building process of our beloved and wonderful At Large Family to impact policy processes. The all-day event's four panel sessions include participation from ICANN board members and senior staff, civil society and Internet business leaders. The conference will explore a broad range of ICANN policy issues including privacy concerns related to the whois policy that requires the publication of registrants' personal data and discussion of ongoing negotiations with law enforcement agencies regarding a related policy that privacy authorities have called "unlawful". Board solicitation of input on how it should receive input and advice

I call your attention to a recently opened Public Comment in which the ICANN Board solicits input on how it should receive input and advice in making its decisions. I have been asked by Olivier to lead the development of an ALAC contribution, supported by Cheryl. The public comment description can be found at http://www.icann.org/en/news/public-comment/input-advice-function-24sep12-e…. Input should preferably be made to the At-Large Wiki at https://community.icann.org/x/K5AoAg. If anyone cannot cannot access the Wiki to submit comments, please submit your comments to this list WITH AN EXPLICIT REQUEST TO POST TO THE WIKI at the start of the message. The comment period ends shortly after the ICANN meeting. I normally have abundant time to work on such statement en route to ICANN meetings, but in this case my flight time is under an hour, so my work-methods must change. PLEASE your thoughts by the end of the day (wherever you are) next Tuesday, October 9th. Hopefully draft will be prepared for discussion and then decision during the ICANN week. Alan
