Dear All, I too, would like to second the nomination of Alan Greenberg by Olivier for ALAC chair. Alan's thoroughness and dedication to Policy Issues and to the ALAC and At-Large Community continues to be extra-exceptional and no doubt will be an excellent ALAC chair. I also second the nomination of Olivier as a ALAC Vice Chair. Olivier's fervent dedication to the ALAC and At-large Community as chair has been breathtaking. The At-Large Community (and ICANN) owe Olivier a debt of gratitude for all you have done for us as chair and for your continuing dedication in At-Large. Kudos to you both. Dear All, The At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) Rules of Procedure (RoP - http://tinyurl.com/ALAC-RoP-2013-04) call for the ALAC Chair to be elected for one year, but subject to certain conditions, may automatically renewed for one additional year. As Olivier Crépin-Leblond was elected to serve as Chair for 2012-13, and was automatically renewed for 2013-14, this year there must be a new election. Nominations are now open for individuals to serve as the Chair of the ALAC. Nominations may be made by any ALAC Member. Nominees need not be an ALAC Member at the time of the nominations, but must have an expectation of being an ALAC Member after the completion of the upcoming Los Angeles ICANN Meeting. Nominations will close on 03 September 2014 at 23:59 UTC. Nominations need not be seconded, but it is an ALAC tradition that others may second the nomination as a show of agreement with the nomination. Nominations other than self-nominations must be accepted within seven days after the close of nominations. Acceptance should be sent to the alac(a)atlarge-lists.icann.org<mailto:alac@atlarge-lists.icann.org>. Report of Board Working Group on Nominating Committee

The report of the Board Working Group on Nominating Committee has finally been released. https://www.icann.org/en/system/files/files/bwg-nomcom-21aug14-en.pdf Short and pretty concise, and makes interesting reading. No explicit changes for ALAC - still 5 members on NomCom and still recommends appointing 5 ALAC Members. Far more changes for rest of AC/SOs though. Also recommends 2-year terms for those on the NomCom including Chair (with a number of escape hatches). I have concerns with some aspects, but overall looks like a thoughtful piece of work. And far better than the external reviews we tend to get. Alan

To be clear, the RoP call for the official selection process for the ALT to begin once the Chair is selected. That order was required because if there are multiple Chair candidates from different regions, it is not until the Chair is selected that we know what regions are still missing from the incoming ALT (which must have one member, including the Chair, from each region). There is no requirement that the past Chair take on the role of a Vice-Chair/ In fact, if the former Chair were no longer an ALAC Member, or were from the same region as the new Chair, such a role would be impossible. Cheryl did act as VC for Olivier's first year. The same was not the case when Cheryl took on the role. All of that notwithstanding, if a Chair has done a good job, is from a different region than the incoming Chair, is still on the ALAC, and is willing to serve as a Vice-Chair, I think that an ALAC would be wise to take him or her up on it. And as a possible incoming Chair, I would have far larger trepidations if Olivier was not willing to take on that role!
