Dear All, Time has come for us to set the ALAC 2017 call schedule. Last year, we sent out a Doodle poll to find rotating time slots and 3 times were identified: * 04:00 - 06:00 UTC * 12:00 - 14:00 UTC * 21:00 - 23:00 UTC Please find attached (doc" ALAC 2017 Rotating times v2) a schedule for the 2017 ALAC Monthly calls as well as the corresponding local times across the time zones (regions observing DST taken into account). Alan sent through the following note with the Doodle poll last year (see message attached): For ALAC Members and Liaisons in particular, PLEASE BE FLEXIBLE. We will try to avoid meetings in the dead of night, but with members spanning the world, that will not always be possible and we will do our best to limit the number of times any individual member needs to participate at really awkward times. It is not fair to force some people to always bear the pain. If you have a particular situation that cannot be easily expressed in the Doodle, please send a private note to me and Gisella. Please confirm: * whether you agree with the above three rotating time slots * We are trying to share the pain! * Whether you see any major issue with any of the dates & times suggested. Consensus Call: ICANN Leadership Program

There have been no substantive issues raised regarding the selection noted below. With this message, I am initiating a Consensus Call of the ALAC to ratify the endorsement of Sarah Kiden, Satish Babu, Andrei Kolesnikov, Maritza Aguero Minano and Javier Rua-Jovet as participants in the Leadership Training Program to be held prior to the ICANN 58 meeting in Copenhagen. The Consensus Call will end at 23:59 UTC on Tuesday, 17 January 2016. If there are any questions of comments, please direct them to either this list or to me directly. Although messages indicating support are welcome, they are not necessary. This Consensus Call will be deemed to have succeeded in the absence of significant opposition (greater than 20% as specified by ALAC RoP 12.3.3.1). ALAC Representative on the .NGO Community Advisory Council

I was approached by Roberto Gaetano (former ALAC Member, former ALAC Liaison to the ICANN Board, former BCEC Chair, former Vice-Chair of the ICANN Board) who is the Chair of the Board of the Public Interest Registry (PIR), the operator of .ORG and now .NGO/.ONG as well Chinese, Hindi and Russian equivalents of .ORG.as several. As you likely know, PIR is a not-for profit organization created by the Internet Society. PIR has a Community Advisory Council for the .NGO/ONG TLD (see http://pir.org/products/ngo-ong-domain/) and asked if the ALAC was interested in having a representative on that Council. After having discussed this with a number of At-Large colleagues, I hope no one will object to my agreeing to do this. Following discussion with Roberto on exactly what is required, I will be sending out a call for volunteers. We have been asked to identify a small number of candidates that we believe would do a good job. The PIR Nominating Committee will select one person to serve on the Advisory Council. Alan

To Evan and all those who supported his thought, I checked with Roberto, and his response was very clear. PIR has no problem with the person coming from an ISOC Chapter, as long as they are active in the field with NGOs. Their main concern is that the Advisory Council provide then with real-world knowledge of the field they are trying to serve, and are sufficiently interested to actually participate actively. Although I clearly understand the connection between PIR:ISOC:ISOC Chapters, I am curious as to exactly what you see as the potential conflict? An ALS that is an ISOC Chapter that receives some funding from ISOC may want ISOC to have more money and thus PIR to be more successful and thus .NGO to be more successful. But that seems to all reinforce what they are looking for, and not be a conflict. And of course, this is just one person on a larger Council. Call for Volunteers: .NGO Community Advisory Panel

The Public Interest Registry (PIR), the operator of the .NGO and .ONG top level domains (see http://pir.org/products/ngo-ong-domain/) is looking for one person to represent the ALAC in its NGO Community Advisory Council. The Advisory Council provides important feedback and advice on issues relating to the NGO community ranging from policy considerations to the introduction of new services. The NGO Community Advisory Council plays a vital role in helping Public Interest Registry fulfill its mission. With .ngo domain users representing NGOs of varying size, sectors,scope and geography, it is important to have advocates in the Internet community who fully understand their needs as diverse service-based organizations. The Council continually lends its unique global expertise to help us meet those needs and strengthen our efforts in supporting NGOs worldwide. The Advisory Council meets Face-to-Face annually (generally in September) and via teleconference four times per year. To the extent allowed by PIR confidentiality rules, the successful applicant will be expected to regularly report to the ALAC on Advisory Council issues and if applicable consult with the ALAC. PIR has asked the ALAC to identify a number of candidates. Ideally, such candidates will come from an active At-Large ALS that has a proven record of engagement with the NGO community. Candidates should have notable leadership experience in non-commercial/civil society community and an acute understanding of the issues and policies that affect the NGO society. Candidates should submit their Expression of Interest detailing their experience, expertise and qualifications along with a statement that they have sufficient time and interest to fulfill the Advisory Council duties. The ALAC Appointee Selection Committee will review all EoIs and will select a small number which will be forwarded to PIR. The final selection on the ALAC Representative will be done by the PIR Nominating Committee. All EoIs must be sent to staff(a)atlarge.icann.org by Wednesday, 25 January 2017 at 23:59 UTC.
