After some discussion showing alarm in the At-Large community, Cintra Sooknanan, member of an At-Large Structure in the Latin American & Caribbean Regional At-Large Organisation (LACRALO) composed a first draft of this statement. The At-Large staff placed this statement on a wiki workspace <https://community.icann.org/display/alacpolicydev/ALAC+Statement+on+the+eG8…> and on 20 May 2011, circulated a call for comments to the At-Large community. Several comments were received, including a joint contribution (Cintra Sooknanan with Christopher Wilkinson, member of an At-Large Structure in the European Regional At-Large Organisation (EURALO)) to draft a second version of this document. On 24 May 2011, this version was presented to the ALAC during its monthly call. The statement was ratified by a unanimous vote, the call having achieved quorum.
