As part of this strategic initiative, an expert working group will be created to provide a foundation for the ICANN community to create (through the Generic Names Supporting Organization, GNSO) a new global policy for gTLD directory services. Chehadé has tapped a seasoned executive, Jean-Francois Baril, to serve as the group's Lead Facilitator, and invites interested individuals with the requisite experience to indicate their interest in serving as volunteer working group members (more information here<http://www.icann.org/en/news/announcements/announcement-2-14dec12-en.htm>). Baril will serve as a neutral chair of the working group. He has no direct professional involvement in domain name services, and brings extensive business, standard setting and consensus building experience to this role. Baril helped create new global standards as part of RosettaNet, a global forum in which suppliers, customers, and competitors come together to create industry specific standards. He is a leading authority on supply chain and procurement, is the CEO of Connecting Partners SA, has over 30 years of professional experience, and has held executive positions at Nokia Corporation and Compaq, among others. "Jean-Francois' abilities to bring together stakeholders representing divergent interests to find common ground are unparalleled," said Fadi Chehadé. Volunteer working group members should: have significant operational knowledge and experience with WHOIS, registrant data, or directory services; be open to new ideas and willing to forge consensus; be able to think strategically and navigate conflicting views; have a record of fostering improvements and delivering results; have a desire to create a new model for gTLD directory services; and be able to volunteer approximately 12-20 hours a month during January – April 2013 to the working group. Individuals who have worked extensively in the areas of registration data collection, access, accuracy, use, privacy, security, law enforcement, and standards and protocols are also encouraged to consider working group membership. As the working group will be a collection of experts, it is not expected to be comprised solely of representatives of current ICANN community interests. Although members may not come directly from ICANN structures, the working group will have a deep u! nderstanding of, and concern for, the ICANN communities' interests.The working group's results will feed into the GNSO's bottom-up, policy development process where all community interests will be encouraged to participate in the decision-making efforts. The WHOIS Privacy and Proxy Relay/Reveal Final Report, prepared by the Interisle Consulting Group in Boston, MA, USA, is the first of these studies to be published by ICANN. This survey was organized to determine the feasibility of conducting a future in-depth study to examine requests to relay communications to, and to reveal the identity of, customers of proxy and privacy services used in connection with gTLD domain names. The Interisle Consulting Group completed the survey in August 2012. The findings suggest that it may be feasible to tailor a future study to provide aggregated data and basic data collection from privacy and proxy providers. Such a future survey is likely to be well regarded by all stakeholders in the community, as it would provide significantly useful data in understanding how privacy and proxy providers manage relay and reveal requests. The GNSO Council is expected to evaluate whether to recommend a new future study based upon the findings of the WHOIS Privacy and Proxy Survey Final Report. Dear All, As ICANN has announced a call for volunteers for the Accountability and Transparency Review Team 2 (ATRT 2)<http://www.icann.org/en/news/announcements/announcement-03dec12-en.htm.>, Olivier Crépin-Leblond, Chair of the ALAC, has requested that a call is made for members of the ad hoc ALAC Sub-Committee on ATRT2 Candidate Endorsement, based on a decision reached during the 27 November ALAC Meeting. This sub-committee will be assessing the ALAC candidates based on agreed criteria as noted on the Assessment Matrix<https://community.icann.org/display/atlarge/At-Large+ATRT2+ALAC+Endorsement…>. The ALAC will then hold a ratification vote on the candidates prior to informing ICANN staff. The composition of the Sub-Committee is to be 5 At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) members from each of the 5 At-Large regions plus 2 ALAC members from any of the regions. Rinalia Abdul Rahim will serve as interim Chair of this Sub-Committee. The ALAC Chair will be a non-voting observer. To enable IDN Variant TLDs in the root, it is necessary to establish the Label Generation Rules (LGR) for the DNS Root Zone. The Label Generation Rules Procedure is a way to develop and maintain the Label Generation Rules for the Root Zone in respect of IDNA labels. The procedure must be in place to enable the delegation and management of IDN Variant TLDs. The Label Generation Rules (LGR) project team, consisting of global volunteers with expert consultants and ICANN staff, produced a draft of the LGR Procedure document that was discussed at a public session at the ICANN meeting in Toronto in October 2012. Comments received in the first Public Comment period as well as community feedback during the Toronto meeting have been incorporated into the current draft, which is published for a second and final round of Public Comment.
